2006 F150 ISSUES!! Sounds like bent valves.

So not like I saw this one coming as I have had nothing but issues with my truck. It is down on power like undrivable down on power. No codes and a taping or ticking noise in the drives side head. I listened with a scope and I hear nothing on the 3 cylinder back drivers side. I am thinking bent valve? or something. This happened a few months back and I just parked the truck. So now I am sick of driving my express van everyday. I should note that this truck has a 2009 longblock in it. Any advice? I was thinking of pulling the valvecover but I just havent done it yet.

I don't think its the phasers. The last motor had diesel throttling of the phasers. This seems like valves. 5w-20 mobil 1.

^Lol, they have NOTHING but issues!
Pull the valve cover and report, my guess would be plugged cats though.

Cats look great. I will pull the valve cover. I hate this motor. Its funny how many 93-2003 f150s you see on the road and how few 2004-2008. Why didn't ford just recall it and give back the money!!

Cats look great? So do some trannies until the pants come off.........you can't tell if cats are plugged unless you drop them and drive it, or can see light through them.

Maybe I will do a swap :)

yeah it says alot when i chose a 140k mile 02 over a 96k mile 2005. Im glad i talked to my ford tech buddy who told me to go this route. He says he says 3-4 times more 04-up 150's in for major service, vs the 03 and older that come in for exhaust manifolds, and sometimes spark plugs.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I took the truck to the guy I got the motor from he cut off the left cat saying it was plugged. He put in a straight pipe. They are like new. You can see daylight through it.

Lol, don't need to cut it out, just drop the exhaust and go for a drive, not hard. There's usually 3 or 4 cats on those though, isn't there? Dunno what else to tell you, check fuel pressure, valve timing, compression, etc.....could have a round cam lobe or two, tough to say without knowing exactly what's going on.
'04+ Ford trucks are shit though, buy a GM or import IMO.

I told them that but he started in with backpressure. I didn't want to call him a moron but I told him he is wrong!! I just wanted the truck fixed not his shit. In the end I got screwed on this motor. I was attempted to get a new one out of him but I will have to sue to get it. He tried to charge me $475 for diagnostics and cutting out the cat. I just picked up my truck and left!

Maybe you should take it elsewhere to have it diagnosed properly? When/how did all this start? Was it always like this since the motor swap or is this something that just happened?

When I 1st got the motor it had a different issue. There was a plactic C sitting on top of one of the intake valves. I spent probaly $500 diagnosing that at the dealer and the moron who sold me the motor. This is a different issue on the other bank. I just don't know where to take it. The dealer will not work on these motors. They basically say if its internal replace the motor. I would love to find a local guru that works on them say out of his garage.

5.4 with variable cam timing are throw away motors, not worth new top end when they fail. Really sucks because Im a Ford guy but GM does have a much better motor compared to it.

How is that possible? Didn't ford sell roughly 10 million of these trucks. You think they would have figured out a way to fix the stupid motors. And what makes the replacement motor better?

Ya, but they're junk, plain and simple, I mean no offence.
Any decent-size repair shop should be able to diagnose it no problem for you, probably see a lot of them. The replacement motors are new, they don't last too long unless the oil changes are done religiously, they plug up oil feeds, tensioners, etc....they are poorly designed.
Hard to tell from your description what's actually wrong, can you pull a plug? anyone can do a compression test and let you know if it's a dead hole or not. Even with a dead hole it should be totally driveable, would need to lose at least 2 to be really bad, that's why I guessed cat-that suffocates motors.....like a bannana in the tailippe.
Dunno if it helps, but I've done some wiring repairs on fuel injectors, the injectors themselves fail quite often. Need more details to really help find this problem.

Yeah it's crazy, but whats even more odd is some people have these trucks with well over 200k on stock motor that is beat to death and not getting oil changes on regular intervals but then theres the people who baby them and change oil every 3k and have somthing go wrong under 100k. Not sure how ford gets away without a class action on the problem, but on the other hand I think they finally wised up and put alot of R&D into the new 5.0, 6.2, and 3.5EB motors to give the consumer much more reliability, and power.
