1000cc choice

I know this isn't a motorcycle forum but I'm sure many have experience with or around motorcycles. I'm looking at 2004-2007's. Price range less than $6500. The 2004-2005 zx10r has a solid motor but apparently it's volatile characteristics hardly make it a user friendly bike. I'm still drawn in by the power aspect (drag racing). My second choice is a 2006-2007 CBR1000rr. I like the fact that it comes factory with a steering dampener and it gets great reviews about making the rider look good and feel comfortable. It lags behind on the top end in comparison to the zx10r but the all around catagory might pursuade that viewpoint. The gsxr1000 is a great bike but they're hard to find as cheap since they dominated the field through 2001-2007. They apparently had a recall on 2005-2006's for a frame issue. The r1 looks good but it lacks the punch that the rest have to offer. Your thoughts? I know there will be some 600cc fans that will chime in and I'm not ruling that out but insurance is only $8 more a month for a 1000cc and they're not that much more expensive. I think if I picked up a 600cc I would track it and but if I go with the 1000cc I'll probably drag it.

I have rode Many R1's R6's GSXR's and CBR's. The bike that fit me the best was my 2005 GSXR1000. Great bike for a shorter rider the other 2 felt like I sat to high. Probably good bikes for taller riders though. Any of them have great power but I thought the GSXR had the best torque feel to me. The best bet is to ride them to see what suits you. Yeah my bike had the frame recall and they put the braces in under the recall, could not even notice them when looking for them. You should be able to pick up any of the 3 in your price range for the years you are looking.

I had a GSXR, bike ran great and never had a problem. Buddy had a R1 same thing, no problems great bike. Both bikes had the shit beat out of them too.

This might seem like a "Captain Obvious" question to you (no offense), but have you tried sitting on each of those models you are interested in, or test-driven the possible choices you are looking at (from friends, dealers, etc, etc) ?

I've sat on the cbr1000rr and it felt pretty good. However, this was at a dealership that also didn't carry Kawasaki's so I wasn't able to sit on any of the zx10r's. The gsxr's seam to sit a little lower than the rest and was a little more comfortable compared to the cbr. I was only able to sit on the r6 and it sat very high, positioning the rider very far forward, placing a lot of weight on the wrist.
I just called on this one and might go look at it on Friday: http://fortmyers.craigslist.org/col/mcy/1819260498.html It's got 9,000 miles.

:893Jedi: Granted it is the biggest of them all (along with the zx14) I'm content with the looks/power of the 1000cc bikes. Those bikes are just way too big. :gr_rainbo

I've ridden an R1 and I loved it. Thought the power came on very smoothly and wasn't super aggressive. The only other 1000 class I've ridden was the Triumph 595 way back when. That was a nice ass bike. I think the 955i is pretty much the same thing so there is another one to look at. I would rather have a European bike than a Japanese bike but that's just me.

Go with a zx10r u won't regret it. They are te most comfortable bike out there. I have a 03 636 an I love how it handles an the powe from tht bike it amazing for 600 class bike.(topped it out at 174) I ride my for hours on end an never complain about how I feel after. Next choice would be a gsxr but they are a little bit more. Hondas are cool looking bikes, but my buddies all complain about their seat is so uncomfortable. But to each his own. Try to
ride several for min of 30-40 an make your descion from there. I love my kawai and I will deffinatly buy another one 03-04 in the future perhaps a 10r if I think I can handle it

I know it's older and not a Jap but just tossing out suggestions

Yeah guess it's rider preference I like it cause it's a touring bike and is a bit better for a 6'2" 200 pounder.

ain't no way that a 636 does 174mph.

I've sat on and rode a ton of bikes. Mostly 600's but a few 1000's. The most comfortable to me was the Suzuki TL1000 but that's a completely different animal. It's a 1000cc sportbike but it lays down more like a 'busa and is a 1000cc V-twin. Makes mad torque!!!

I rode a TL1000R for many years. It's decently fast for a 1000cc v-twin. it made more power then the Hondas and Ducs of similar years. It was pretty comfy, sounded great, big and wide, and made great torque. Second gear wheelies were no problem without the clutch. But it handled like crap with Suzuki's rotary shock setup in the back. It bucked and wallowed like a pig in mud around the turns.

I still love the 03-04 GSXR-1000s. If I was going to get another 1k, that would be the bike, for sure.

for the record, I've owned:
1994 ZX-6E
1995 ZX-6R
1998 TL1000R
2001 GSXR-1000
2003 CBR600RR
2005 ZX6R (636)

and have ridden a lot on:
2000 ZX12R
2002 Busa
2003 GSXR-1000

and have limited riding experience on
1995? Ducati 748
2004? ZX-14
2005 CBR600RR
2005 CBR1000RR

out of all of them, for all around riding, the 03 GSXR1000 was my favorite. If I had to pick one bike to ride, that would be it.
