The Story:
Basically, I was merging onto 23S from Cone rd. I believe. As I was merging on at the very end of the on ramp the back of the car hydroplaned and whipped out to the left. The car slide sideways, I jammed on the brakes and turned the wheel just barely missing the guardrail. The car was almost 180 degrees spun around. We were basically facing oncoming traffic. 95% of the car was sitting in shoulder lane, and the back passenger corner was in the right hand lane. No shit. Less then 1 ft. The next thing I know my brother is screaming "oh fuck" at the top of his lungs. I look out his door/window and it was too late. Semi truck headlight, flash, airbags and the car spun what I think to be another 180 degrees off of the truck. I am 100% sure the semi was not driving centered in the lane, he had to have been riding along in the shoulder. The semi truck struck the car at the very back of the passenger door.

BTW, we were only traveling, 35-40mph tops due to the insane amount of rain.

After talking to the tow truck driver, he said he picked up 6 other wrecks from the exact same spot last night, all with the same situation. Or close too. Apparently there is a pump to pump the water off of the onramp. And it is inoperative. So the water just pools there... and you can pretty much figure out the rest. The tow truck driver said there was a casualty there last night, so I guess we got out lucky on the whole ordeal.

The insurance adjuster is coming out to look at the car Monday. Now that I've had some time to look the car over, I am noticing that it is almost all cosmetic damage. I crawled under the car and checked out the back suspension. The upper and lower control arms, as well as the tie rods are all mint. The wheel hub and rim itself are bent thus making the picture look so horrifying. The passenger door is obviously wasted. The car will need a new front bumper, passenger fender, headlight, rear quarter panel, entire roof section, front window, back window, passenger window, and rear wheel/tire. There is no frame damage that I can see. The only part of the car I’m not sure how they can repair is the rear passenger door jam….

I’m not sure if the car’s totaled at this point. It’s hard to say. It’s a 03 zo6 that just hit 8,000 miles, so the insurance company said they can spend up to 28 grand to fix it…. You can do a shit ton of body work for $28,000.

What do you guy’s think? Is it totaled?

NOT MY CAR, PULLED THIS OFF ANOTHER FORUM......:pow: Sounds like its over by milan.

Yuck. The city that neglected to shut down the ramp while the water pump was inoperable should be responsible for all repairs IMO..

That car is totaled. But I'd buy it back and turn it into a racecar and have the new z06 for cruising still. lol

don't know if its totaled or not. Depends on many factors. Also this guys visual inspection isn't gonna determine shit about suspension or frame damage  Its all measured w/ a computerized system in mm's.

Sounded like the guy didn't know how to drive either, that didn't help at all.

I assume you mean the truck driver and not the Vette.

I know no one who drives a twenty year old Ford Escort would have the gull to critique the driving skill of a Vette owner who just lost his toy.

You're right. That's the EXACT way to drive  Yup, I have NO IDEA how to drive either. You can think what you want, just because I dont own a 'vette', I own an Escort because I want other things too, I can't drive. :pow: Plus, EVERY vette owner can drive, just like every person that owns a wrecked Enzo can drive too.

I take that back, because if you look at the cabin picture, you'll see it dark out, prolly after the car was towed to the Lot, or home. whatever.....

You're right.

I'm glad you agree. You obviously don't have experience driving a Z06 in the rain where deep ponds of standing water have developed..

Were not talking about some 50 year old putting his 13 second car into the wall at the track here ..

Getting jacked by the weather could happen to -anyone-.

I agree. It doesn't matter how good of a driver you are... Mother nature will put a hurting on you... Especialy on light little cars like that... Anything could happen in the rain.
