Your recommendations for a daily driver / winter car?

Since my vette's a piece of junk and will eventually strand me after littering the roadway with parts and i'll need another ride for winter anyway, it's time to start thinking about one.

I'm trying to stay under $6k, paying cash and I want some utility, good mpg, cheap/easy to maintain... for the last few years before I ditched the GF I drove her extra/old 2003 Pontiac Vibe, it was a base FWD auto model she had bought new and when I sent her packin it had 195k miles on it with NOTHING but oil changes and brakes, never leaked a thing or did anything odd... and returned 33mpg highway.

I'm thinking about buying one say a 2004-2005, hopefully 5spd... unless someone here has a better alternative? It's a pretty dorky car, but it fits the bill for trips to the home depot and you never have to work on it ever cause it's all Toyota.

im gonna have to agree with the other guys and say get yourself a 4.0 Jeep Cherokee. they arent very fast, handle like tanks, and all get 18-19mpg, but you cant kill em if you stay up on oil changes and theyre fun to beat on, can haul stuff and wont get stuck. I fold my back seat down and can fit tons of crap inside if need be

Mine is pretty much mint, no rust anywhere. Leather, fully Loaded Limited version. Snagged it up for $4200 with 103K miles on it needed nothing except had blown speakers. Great deal IMO! Guy had all the oil change receipts and maintenance records from the dealer, and was a 1 owner with clean Carfax.

Some people what stupid amounts for them but be patient they are out there for good deals. Took me 4 months of looking.

No car payments here!:thumbsup:

My only complaint is I went from a S80 Twin Turbo Volvo to this so the ride is not so smooth compared to what I had. It is a fun ride though and not a dog by any means.
 
We have an 05 Vibe and you can fit all sorts of stuff in it, and it's one of the only wagons with an opening rear window so you can fit even more stuff in it. You can find them in AWD as well.
