You knew it was coming... Samsung Galaxy S4

The upsides:

Specs make the iPhone 5 look like a stretched out piece of old hardware... oh wait.
- 5.3 inch screen in Full 1080 HD. For comparison, the S3 was 4.8 in at 720, the iPhone 5 is 4 in at 640
- Storage: 16, 32, and 64 gig available. Comparable to the iPhone 5 in the same size. S4 has an SD Card for expansion up to another 64 GB
- Camera: 13 mp on the back and 2 mp on the front. Iphone has 8 on the back and 1.2 on the front.
- Available Apps: Google Play - 700,000. iPhone 5 - 775,000
- Processor: US Variants will get the quad core while abroad it'll rack up EIGHT cores. iPhone 5 has a measly 2 cores. Granted multi core processing in phones is still not fully integrated, 8 cores in a phone is staggering.

Key features:
Dual Camera Tech: Take photos and video with the front and rear cameras simultaneously. Not really sure when you would use this, but I'm sure someone would.
Expanded Motion ability. Move your hands or the phone in a ton of motions to make it cure cancer.

The meh:
no word yet on battery life. This makes me believe it's going to hurt. You can't have a quad core/8 core phone and still get 8 hours of talk time. We'll see though.
OS. Not that there's anything better it could offer, Jelly Bean seems a little 'old' for a new flagship device. If there was a guarantee of KLP being installed at release, then it might catch my attention, but for now, it's just rumor.

I seriously can't think of a valid good reason to use that except for home made porn.

love my s3, cant see much reason to get the s4 yet other than the processor for me really. faster phone is the only thing i see worth it, cameras and the 1080v720 does not do much for me

any other thoughts?

This seems like the same apple did with the 5. It was all hype but in all the 5 should have been the 4 and this should have been the s3. I'm tired of these companies trying to push out the next big thing and its really not that much better than the last. IMO only thing nice is the 13mgp camera and battery with all that screen and shit is gonna blow nuts.

I'm still holding out for the Motorola "X phone". If it's a Nexus or something close, that'll be my next phone.

Steph is probably going to take my S3 and get rid of her iPhone. I'll use her upgrade and get a Windows 8 phone. I pretty much only use my phone for work stuff, so having that functionality is more interesting to me than anything.

Battery details were out at launch:

Also, the 8 core cpu is more efficient than the current S3 offering, so expect better battery life than an S3 (even with the larger display)

Ryan, is it possible for you to compare this new phone from Jesus, to the iPad mini?

Apple should just make the mini a phone too, I mean, it's only like 1/2" bigger than this new phone!

I'd look up the specs and compare, but I just don't get as big a hardon as some people do over phones.

You hate apple, so your comparisons are always 2 sided! Hahahaha

Im thinking the 8-core will be the model peddled by service providers, and the quad-core will be your standard unlocked GSM fare. With the S3, the service providers sold the dual-core/2GB RAM model, and the unlocked GSM variant was quad-core/1GB RAM. I hope they do something to address the battery life issue that plagues the S3. Most people I know with a S3 have to keep a charger with em everywhere they go.

I mean they didn't release talk time etc... Besides, talk time numbers and the sort are useless. It's screen on time that matters in the battery war.

For someone who doesn't get as big a hardon over phones, you sure are one of the first to post anything to do with defending the iPhone. Let's be honest, the iPhone has stagnated over the last few years and Samsung took advantage of that. Marketing for Samsung gave Apple a black eye and it's obvious investors agree as they flee from their investments in Apple. Samsung is on the verge of the same and for all intents and purposes, unless someone comes out with something revolutionary, all phones are going to stagnate. There is no obvious best phone. The part that cracks me up is that loyal fanboys of Apple refuse to look at reality. So threads like these making get their panties in a bunch are entertaining. Now go back to straightening out your panties and carry on!

Bet someone will make a helmet mount so you can use it like a go pro but get both front and rear angles of video. that would be sweet.

This is my only complaint, battery life of my s3

I know people use phones differently, but I rarely ever put my phone on the charger at night without it being between 50 and 70% useage. I use my phone again for a lot of work stuff. Texting, emails, calls, and I stream Pandora during my 2 hour drive to and from work. I don't do games or a lot of screen on time anymore, so it's to be expected.

4 core will be for the US
8 core will be for europe

at least thats the rumor

Fuck that feature, I'm tired of people videoing their reactions to things and putting it on youtube. That's what this will be good for, you can video an event and your reaction simultaneously.

I agree, apple hasn't done anything worth mentioning with the iPhone in a couple years. It's lighter, faster and taller. For my use, the cameras are plenty good as is. IMO they need to work on making them tougher so they don't explode if you drop them. I've never broke a screen but I always use a case and wish I felt confident not.
