Wyotech or UTI

I think I have a fair knowledge of both schools. While I know its my choice, I'm torn between both schools. I have mixed reactions from people for both schools. I think liked UTI overall better, because of the specialty programs. I think going there I will have a better chance of going somewhere with my career. On the other side I liked Wyotech, because not only did you learn about auto, but they did a lot of custom work. Chassis Fabrication and what not. Maybe I don't want to work at a dealership the rest of my life. I would love to work in a custom shop. Its such a hard choice because I'm dropping about 30k into one of these schools....I would hate to make a mistake and go to the wrong one, or one I didn't like very much.

I graduated from UTI August of 2006 and I believe it was a pretty good school, you have to pay attention and take everything you can in because each course runs 3 weeks long. The only downside is that you don't get into chassis fabrication or body repair or anything of that sort. At UTI you learn pretty much everything about brakes, suspension and undercar, electronics, manual/auto trans, diagnostics and you build your own chevy 350 for your hot rod classes and dyno it in the schools t-buckets. Overall I think I learned a lot out of the school, I didn't go into the specialty programs but I was told that it was a more practical way of getting a job in the area that you want to i.e. Ford, Jag, Mercedes, Toyota and so on. I know people who have graduated from Wyotech that have gotten jobs in great dealerships, and the same with UTI, it all has to do with what you take out of the schools and what you put your knowledge towards. A ton of the kids I went to school with talked down upon it, but that was only because they were the ones that wouldn't shut up in the back of class and always acted like they knew everything already.

Hope you choose the right one, I know there's a campus by you in Rancho Cucamonga (sp?). If you can, take a tour of both schools and then ask them questions about how in depth they get at each campus.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. I already made a visit to UTI and it looked like a great program and I really liked everything that they had offered. I still plan to make a visit to Wyotech before I make my choice. Its so hard, because I want to know all the auto stuff, but at the same time I want to learn all the custom work as well. ..........*sigh*.........
