WTF happened to my oil temp gauge?

I did a cam swap on my car, and after i put it back together I noticed my oil temp gauge is pegged at the max - WAY past the highest mark. It hasnt moved since and i cant figure out what the problem is nor can i get it to budge. Power on or off, it stays there.

I have my sensor mounted in the oil drain plug (I know, not the best place) but the entire time i was working on it I had the battery unplugged.... so im not sure what could have possibly happened. It worked with no problems before the cam swap.
 
actually that makes perfect sense... shit.

I replaced the oil pan gasket. The old one had metal in it that probably grounded it to the block, the new one doesnt. damn.
