WTB: Canon lens(es)

I want to get my girlfriend a lens for her camera for Christmas. I've been looking at a few and the price range differs. The only lens we have right now is the 18-55 kit lens. I am open to options and opinions. Anyone steer me in the right direction?

My #1 choice would be the 55-250 lens. Inexpensive but good reviews, especially for the price. I am looking for something with a little more reach though (70-200, 70-300, etc.)

I have the 55-250 and like it, especially since it's IS. I got it at Newegg. If you're ever on the west side you're more than welcome to try it.

I've bought used lenses before (EF-S 10-22) at http://www.fredmiranda.com/, but do your research on your seller.
 
Amazon has it for about the same as NewEgg. Both new for about $210 shipped. I didn't realize they were that inexpensive, so I might just order one tomorrow.
