Worst thing that happened to you while working on cars?

OH MAN, i have probably hundreds but a few pop into my mind...

Checking the power steering fluid on a 3.0 chrysler in the pitch dark, finger caught the fins of the alternator blade while spinning taking off the nail and tip of my finger OMFG talk about pain.

Mixing bondo flipping it to mix in the hardner and a tiny bit flipped up in my eye all over my eye lid, just like you i am flustered to think of a way to get it out without making the pain worse as i try and grab it but it just smears more into my eyelashes and starts to harden (HOT) so i broke out the painters hand cleaner (with paint thinner in it) and started SCRUBBING my eye with it. OOOF damn was my eye red for weeks.

Countless times getting thinner in my eyes, not too bad anymore.

Got a real nice sliver in the white of my eye once (i even had on glasses but it flew around them) while i was grinding. I reaaally dont like going to hospitals so i scraped it out with a razor blade, cringe!

Was talking to a buddy of mine in the body shop while he was putting a window motor in a door. I was crouched next to him and BS'n when his air wratchet kicked out of his hands cuz it maxed out the bolt and plowed my in the nose. I sat back and was just about KO'd, had to shake it off for about 3 minutes.

PS one of my buddys did the mack daddy of all and had some paint thinner in a pop bottle to take home and was bullshittin then gulped two WHOLE swigs of it before he started to choke on it. Called ER and they said DO NOT induce vomiting, it will tear up the throat even worse! Rushed him to ER... very painful.

Another buddy of mine was BS'n and swingin his arms at the same time when the tip of his finger hit a broken PLASTIC headlight and sliced it about clean off, was only hanging on by a thread lol.

I was standing on this box of kitty litter removing a bolt. The bolt was pretty far down and I managed to fall off the box of kitty litter. What I didn't know was that before I fell off the box of kitty litter the jackstand in the background got moved to the other side of the kitty litter box. Well when I fell the side of my thigh landed on the top of the jackstand. It took more than a month for that damned bruise to heal.
I can't find the picture that I took of my thing. It kinda reminded me of the arm and hammer logo only it was all purple and on my thigh.
Despite the bruise I was very thankful to the guys that helped me get the motor out of my GTO so I could get the rebuild process started.

Trying to crack a radiator cap, it slipped and I caught a faceful of overheated coolant. Thankfully I got mostly out of the way so it only hurt like hell as opposed to scalding the shit out of me.

I was 15 and helping a friend work on his LeCar. He had the battery sitting in the charger for who knows how long before I arrived. When it was time to install the battery we noticed the terminals were not labeled and he forgot how it was connected. Connect positive, all is good. Connect ground and . . . BOOM! Battery shrapnel took out the garage windows and covered us with battery acid. After a quick garden hose rinse, we went straight to the emergency room. Neither of us has physical scars, but 20 years later I still flinch when connecting batteries.

Hell I've never had a battery explode on me and I flinch when connecting cables.

Welding up exaust and a spark went right in my ear canal

pushing on a big ass pry bar to pop the c-clip on a cv axle and it slipped and I went flying right into a pan full of oil

pulling on a big ass pry bar to to pop the c-clip on a cv axle and busting myself in the mouth with the handle

And literally 2 days ago! Replaced a upper and lower intake gasket on a 3.1 and while bleeding the coolant I had the screw backed out to far on the high pressure line and when the coolant finally got to it the screw flew off and shot out coolant like a geyser all over the car, me, my garage and my phone!

phone no workie until I get new one in the mail:ohwell:

Touched a belt that was connected to a running engine. I honestly don't know why I did that. Lucky my finger wasn't cut right off, but as it was I got a pretty bad cut on my finger

Also got a face full of hot pressurized brake fluid once.

:icon_lol: I've almost done that like hit the belt and was like OH SHIT. Your license plate lights look bad ass in your sig pic FYI.

My dads dumb moment story:
When he was 16 or 17 he was changing his oil on his 63 Impala SS, changed filter pulled drain plug to drained oil, forgot to put drain plug back in. Poured in fresh oil right back onto the driveway due to lack of drain plug.

Buddy Story.
Did brakes on his F-150 and when putting on the Pads he put the inner ones on with the backing plate facing the rotor!

That reminds me:

My very first oil change at 15 yrs old, I learned that the filter gasket will sometimes stick to the motor and cause your oil to end up in the driveway

trying to undo a ball joint, using an allen wrench socket on my flex head ratchet to hold the stud and a wrench to hold the nut. allen socket broke and i took the ratchet to the mouth. almost split my lip open, lucky i have all my teeth

hot coolant in the eye, not fun

metal shaving sitting ON my eyeball, no penetration thank god

had a new brake line hanging down, stood up and it poked me in the eye, again lucky no cut

yanked on an alternator in a toyota in a tight spot, came loose and smashed my 3rd finger on my left hand, nail turned red hurt all day. wound up losing that nail but it grew back.

and the classic sprayed brake clean down a cylinder with a piston in it breaking down an old motor, sprayed back into my eye, that hurt for a while.

went to adjust my timing on my fox mustang when i got it. it had a cracked distributor cap and i didnt know it...i got all 50k volts up my right arm
