Worst Day of my life...

I know there are a lot of pet (dog) lovers here, so I figured I would share.
I dont post much, and dont know many of you, but have been around since 2002.

Last Friday, I had to make the decision to put my best friend for the last 11 years to sleep.

Worst part is that his mind, vision, and hearing were all still sharp as a tack.
Rock had hip dysplasia, and for about the last year was on pain medicine that was doing a great job of controlling the pain. The last few weeks he had a very hard time walking, getting up, and moving in general.

Tuesday night we woke up to his crying in the middle of the night. I had to make the call Wednesday morning that every pet parent will always have pain making.

Friday afternoon my little buddy went peacefully and is now pain free.

The first picture is from Thursday night, the one outside is from 2004 when he was a young 5 year old.

Ohh wow man.. he still looked like a very healthy happy dog in that first pic... looks very young for being 11.

I feel your pain. The best thing to do it have pictures of him around the house, but the only real bandaid on the loss of an animal is to get another one. Trust me. I know it wont be the same but it will let you remember all the good times you had with him and not the good times you get to experience with the new one. (And bad times, lol!)

I'm so sorry for your loss

I had to have my 15 year old cat PTS last month. She was my best friend and was with me through some of the hardest times in my life. I miss her every day. I did get a nice pendant with her ashes forever set in glass and a nice URN as well. It still barely feels real, but at least I am not crying like a little girl all day like I was in the beginning.

I got a kitten a couple weeks ago and she will never replace the one I lost, but watching the crazy kitten antics takes away the sting a little.

i had to put one of my dogs down a few years ago. i actually made a similar post to this one. man was it hard. sorry to hear

I'm sorry for your loss. When I put my 19 year old cat down I was a basketcase. A lot of us know how you feel. :(

I can relate, man. Did the same a few years ago w/my Doberman but he was only 7. Out of nowhere he'd shown signs/suffered from Wobbler's syndrome, and the vet gave me absolutely no hope to do anything about it. One minute he was perfect as usual, the next he was in agonizing pain. That was the worst thing I've ever had to do.

:( Bummer. Sorry to hear. It never seems like an insanely hard time until you actually go through it. I learned back in 04 how hard it is to put down a loyal pet. May he RIP and maybe you'll get another pal one day that will love you all the same.

Very hard situation. We had to put down our 8 year old lab about 5 years ago.
We got a Golden pup soon after. Now with this guy around it almost seems like it was meant to happen somehow to bring him here. Good luck.

This makes me feel motivated to spend more time with my dog. I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to really take him to the park or spend any quality time with him. This kinda thing wakes you up to how short a dogs life is in comparison to ours, and how much we should cherrish every moment! Taking good care isn't always enough....they cherish every minute of extra time you can give them.

OP- Sorry to hear about your loss.....and like some have said, let your pup's heart live on in a new pup!

Sorry to hear man. We've had a rough year. We had to put down my G/F's horse (23), her dog (11), and my cat (15). It is NEVER an easy decision. But know that you are doing it for his own good. You wouldn't want them to live a life in pain. Just know you gave him a good life and enjoyed the time you had together. And eventually you will feel the need to share your life with another animal. We've already gotten anther dog & cat. As for the horse, that's gotta wait till I get a farm.

WOW Sad to hear Jason, me and Ki-Ki loved Rock and all the memories he shared with kissing ki ki (and those amazing farts lol) . I know he was your main man and spent many nights up with the prix's! Sorry about your loss! ROCK will be missed!
