Work Commute - Average speed

My new commute: If I leave by 5:45 it takes me 40 minutes to go 30 miles. Most of it highway. If I leave after 5:45, every 5 minutes later adds about another 10 minutes of time till by 7, it takes 2 hours to go 30 miles.

That's Atlanta, right? Some of the worst commutes in the USA there. Didn't stop Amazon from keeping them on the Top 20 list though!

What (if it has been identified) is the root cause? the "brine" or the lack of an ingredient that binds the asphalt?

Lol, that photo is about right. On Mound road northbound between 14 and 18, the left lane is gone. 1'x1'x1' deep holes or bigger with boulders/chunks of concrete laying around, cars off in the turnaround lanes with flat tires. mound at 696, cars are going over the curb onto the grass in front of the car wash to avoid the holes in the road. Mound southbound is not much better, gotta drive on alert and be ready to swerve at a moments notice to avoid huge holes or cars that just hit those holes and are pulling off to the side with flat tires......

Yea. It's bad. Thankfully I can work from home up to 100% of the time. I go in for meetings and the sort. I also go in early to avoid traffic and leave early.

Patching crew on southbound Mound between 12 mile and 696. I am not sure how they are going to successfully patch anything - the holes are all filled with gravel and mud, so anything they put in will just get spit back out. They really need to clear the holes with a power washer first or something...
