Woodward Dream Cruise - new name?

Terrible idea. Why not just keep calling it the 'Woodward Dream Cruise'. This is a local event, not a stadium or a NASCAR race.
Good luck fitting this new name on mugs, hats and shirts...

Detroit -- The Woodward Dream Cruise has a new name.

From now on the event will be known as the Woodward Dream Cruise presented by the MotorCity Casino Hotel, now that the casino has become the presenting sponsor of the parade of classic and collectible cars.

Tony Michaels, executive director of the WDC, made the announcement this morning at a press conference at the casino hotel.

"For nine years, the MotorCity Casino has been a sponsor of the Woodward Dream Cruise," said Michaels, flanked by a gleaming 1931 Ford deuc coupe and a 1950 Mercury.

"This year, they stepped up to become the presenting sponsor of the 15th annual Woodward Dream Cruise. The Woodward Dream Cruise is here to stay; it will be better than ever with this new sponsorship."

everyone will still just call it Woodward Dream Cruise. That just like DTE energy music theatre, everyone still calls it pine knob

While it's not a Nascar event, I'm glad that they found a sponsor to pay for this to go on. I know they were having a lot of trouble with companies pulling out this year.

If it keeps the Cruise going, I say go for it.

Fine they are the major sponsor. Why does the name have to change? I didn't see Eaton on all of the shirts in the name. Yes they were all over all of the signs and stuff. Fine, keep the signs with the new sponsor name. But adding all that to the name just seems pointless. Is the casino that full of themselves that they NEED to change the name of a major event already known nationwide? :shake:

I just don't see the point of getting your panties in a bunch over something like this.

The Casino came in and took on a big event. The Dream Cruise now has the funding it needs. Who cares about the rest?

When you think about it, the name didn't change. They added a presenting sponsor, big deal. It's still called the Woodward Dream Cruise. The problem would have been if they called it the Motor City Hotel and Casino Dream Cruise. That is a name change. What they did is not a name change. They did it the right way.

According to the article, the name will change.

Shit we should see if they want to sponsor the club and get us the corner of 13 and Woodward :)

The article told you the name though. No one will ever go through the effort to read that presented by line and on anything they print stuff like that on the presented by line is always written smaller under the actual event name. Like I said, I would have a problem with the Motor City Hotel and Casino Dream Cruise. That's not what they did. Adding a presented by is completely meaningless. No one will even remember who the presented by sponsor was. Daytona 500 and Indy 500 have both added presented by's to their names. Without using a search, tell me who the Daytona 500 and Indy 500 were presented by this year. I thank Motor City Hotel and Casino for sponsoring the event and adding themselves to the name in the way they did because it is not a form of sponsorship that will leave anyone with a lasting impression of who the sponsor was.

the name change will basically be for the radio stations doing promoting, shirts and novelties and signs... other than that it doesnt really matter

they are trying to make it commercialized in my opinion... anything to get national recognition

who cares about sponsors???? Wouldnt people still cruise regardless if tents are set up and vendors catering music and food ect? We all cruise right now Fridays and Sat's without them!

That would have been even worse.

They're not in a bunch. I just don't want to see shirts where you can't even fit the name of the event across the front is all.

I will be out cruising regardless of who is sponsoring it. I could care less who it is. But thanks to them for stepping up. But as Steve said, we'd all be out there regardless of a corporate sponsor or not. You think if they 'cancelled' it due to no sponsorship it would stop? I think not. I know all the locals would just be out there with our own BBQ's and chairs anyway. Hell my friends from NY would still come out to be part of it too. I was just stating that I don't see why they have to make a big deal out of it is all. Just an observation I had.
