Woodchucks

I have a family of woodchucks living under my deck. While I think they're cute as hell, they're starting to become a nuisance digging things up in the yard. There's a mother and 4 babies. I called Oakland County Animal Control but they told me that they don't deal with wildlife and I would have to call a trapper or trap them myself if I wanted to move them. Does anybody have an experience with trappers/trapping? Since there's 5 of them, I don't want to do it myself and they're cool as hell so I don't want to hurt them, just move them somewhere else.

i caught some at my grandparents place. caught em in a live trap with apple slices. then id toss the trap in their pond for ten minutes. empty it, new apple, restart lol

be careful there mean as fuck... one attacked my neigbors dog while she was walking it!

So far they've been pretty timid but I haven't gone anywhere near the babies so as to not piss off the mother.

If it were squirrels I would have no problem with that but I really like these guys so I'd rather move them somewhere and let them go.

You're gonna have to trap em and re-locate them. My boss had them also taking up residence under his shed, eventually the shed collapsed. They're cool, but your seen caddyshack right?

I've done this a bunch with raccoons. Except i used a 55 gal drum instead of a pond. Id have to screw the cat food tins to the trap. even then sometimes they could get the food without setting off the trap.

You trap them and move them they just become someone else's problem. Only way to end the problem is to wack em! I have them all over the place by me, it would be near impossible to get rid of them.

Last year the lady that lives behind me found out she had a male one living in a hole under her garage. They way she discovered this is sad. Her daughter came to visit for a week and brought a golden retriever with her. The first evening they were there they let the dog out in the back yard. A few minutes later they heard the dog yelping and went out to find the dog covered in blood trying to get away from this damn thing that ripped its side open. The dog died from its wounds. A trapper came and trapped the thing and took it away. The may be cool but they are still wild animals so be careful.

I'd off them personally, but you can go to Gander Mtn. or Cabela's and get a humane trap and throw some food in there for them, trap them, and take them out to some woods a certain distance from your place and drop them. I HIGHLY doubt they'll make it back to your deck.

There might be other places for the trap, but those are the first ones to come to mind.

why drown them? why not just put a bullet in their head and put them out quick? also, a wood chuck can ruin your property but imagine what 5 could do!! You def need to trap them ASAP and relocate them far away.

They may be cute as you say, yet they need to leave! Ever see what they can do to a concrete floor by tunneling under it? I had a small litter and they uh, got exterminated,...Now that I built a new, larger 30X40 buildind, I'm careful as Hell! Never, I mean NEVER stack anything along side your building, 'cause if you do...Yep, those rats will burrow right there and your problems start. Good luck. For the record, I used a spade shovel...Swing and Ping! The babies were easy, the mother was a bit of a sport-she took a bit..;)

I had a super monster one living under my shed, it ruined the floor. I blew off a shit ton of fire crackers in its den and it never returned :)
