Wifi Question

Ok I have a 2100sqft ranch house the garage has been converted into a den (don't worry have a 2.5 detached to work out of lol) We watch most our tv in this room and its also where I play xbox when I have time and its where my wireless router and modem is. Problem is my young kids have amazon fire tv sticks and they lag real bad and have connection issues because the router is on the other side of the house, so my question is do wifi extenders work? and what is a good one. Thanks

Extenders are a pain. Grab an Access Point and have/run cable run to where you want it from your current router location. You may need to run power to the location if you want it mounted to the ceiling or if you do not have PoE. Another option would be, if possible, move your wireless router/modem to the middle of the house.

EnGenius and Ubiquity make some good consumer level products.

Aaaaand we have a winner!

Some of the Ubiquiti and Mikrotik WAPs come with PoE injectors. They usually run $5 to $10 by themselves. They're nothing more than a Y cable with ethernet on one end and a 2.5mm DC power inlet.

I guess I should have mentioned that/this. If you get a PoE injector, you can have the injector where ever you want making the AP install a single cable deal.

Ok, I now have a head ache...lol...I was thinking about just buying a wireless extender, and plug it into my bedroom mainly for my PC....will that be fine....I do absolutely no gaming.

A repeater may work, but it's going to depend on the signal being broadcast by the router. If the router can't reach your PC in your bedroom, it won't reach a repeater in your bedroom either. A wireless access point wired directly to the router is the better method in any scenario.

The cantenna works better as a backbone, it's too directional to work well as an access point.
