looking to get into the auto industry. I have a college degree, internships. Any help would be appreciated

Ford is hiring like crazy. Getting in direct hire is really difficult without an internal connection. Contact contract companies like Kelly to see what's available. Without experience it is difficult to get a job, but you do have a degree which may help. The contract positions start at around 23-25 on the lower end and go up to about 28-32 for others, although the higher end will almost always require experience in the job - such as WERS and GPIRS systems, along with Ford process.

Just be smart in signing with a contract company because once you do you cannot leave to another contract company without sign off from your ford manager and current contract company, so pick a good one. Many times, the same contract companies offer the same positions but with different rates and benefits.

If you know somebody that works for the company and has been there a while, if you're lucky a manager, have them look around or contact their friends for entry level positions they may be hiring for. A bunch of new hires just got put on the launch team in Allen Park where I'm at. I'm guessing these guys got brought in at around 25/hour, but that's what you can expect having no experience at Ford. Your experience can carry over from a supplier or other automotive company though, but you have almost got to have something unless your connection is really solid. Either way, without ford experience, i doubt you could get a job as a wers analyst or build planner so you'll have to get in on the lower end. I think you have a good chance of getting in right now.

Haha, Ford $25 an hour? for doing what? I worked in R/D at for dyno lab as a technician and when I left they were paying new contract hires 11-13/hr. Fuck Ford (working for them)

I work in program management. I didn't know anybody made 11-13 there. That sucks bigtime.

I'm guessing you were employed by Roush (or contracted to Roush, then recontracted), contracted into a Ford Facility......Roush has had the contract on most R/D technicians for a little over 6 years now. They offer decent benefits if your a direct hire into ROUSH, but pay is sub par at best.

A lot of people don't realize that the company you contract with makes a huge difference.

There are several positions offered by various contract companies. I know that back in May there was a WERS analyst position that paid 25 with one, 28 with another, and 32.50 from Kelly. It all depends on who you contract with.

FYI, my friend has been a dyno tech on village rd since 2005. At that time, he was making 18/hour contracted through Kelly. He is still there but now he is direct hire and I have no idea what he makes, but I would bet it's pretty decent bread.

Also, that is a job you do not need a degree for. He got in with a HS diploma and even as a direct hire, he does not have a degree. Although, his dad did get him the job, as he worked for the company for 30 years and had a good reputation. My friend is also a really smart person.

I didnt work for Roush when I was at Ford, I was contracted through Jacobs technology. All contract employees at their dyno facilities are Jacobs, Roush employs for 'Mechanic' positions.

What is your friends name? I worked at dyno from 08-11 and during that time 2 people got hired direct. Not that those people did not deserve it but the were the total ass kissers. Doing a good job at Ford is like pissing your pants in a dark suit, you feel all warm and fuzzy but noone notices. I left that place as fast as I could. The company that I left to go to basically doubled my salary and hired me direct from kelly services after 3 months. I busted my ass and deserved it, but I also did the same at Ford (atleast for a while). Once it was pounded in our heads after numerous company wide meetings that there was not going to be direct hires I stopped giving a fuck. Before I left they were hiring guys that had ZERO experience in automotive. One guy was a former mortgage banker. He pointed at a water pump and asked if it was a turbocharger.

also try DENSO in southfield. they are a tier 1 supplier.
A friend was an engineer there and it opened the door to GM, once at GM he applied at Chrysler and got hired. Then GM offered a promotion. Now he's overseeing some new trans line in Warren.

The only way you make money is to move around and change jobs every couple years. Otherwise, they assume you are content.

degree in communications. intern at a tier 2 supplier. Ideally like a job in account management, program management/program development. I am not limited to just the auto industry. Thanks for all the help and suggestions so far
