Who has really nice garage/shop pics?

I'm planning on building a shop in the spring and was wondering who out there has pics of some really nice garage layouts. Now that I have kids and a fiance', I can't be an anal neat freak about my house anymore, so my shop is gonna be MY space.
For mine, I'm lookin at 26' deep, 36' wide, 3 doors, all coated (or tiled) floors and drywalled. (Everyone always says go bigger but I'm limited by the dimensions of my back yard). One bay will have a 2 post lift, tool boxes, sofa, fridge, tv..., another will be storage but double as a paint booth, and the last will be a narrow storage area for bikes, lawn tractors, christmas/halloween stuff..... I figure I can put the furnace and air compressor in the small storage area so it's outa sight, outa mind. What else should I plan on adding?

Big screen TV... Kegeratior fridge(sp?)... PS2/3... X-Box 360... Surround Sound....

Oh the list can go on and on...

Can you go a couple of feet deeper? As you go along you'll decide that you need a drill press, hydraulic press, bandsaw, ect and you'd be able to put them along the back wall in the work area.

Mine is 30x40 and its nowhere near big enough.
You will also need 12ft ceilings
I would also radiant floor heat

agreed on the ceiling and radiant heat, it you are going with new construction, do it for sure

just make sure to leave places in the radiant heat floor for the hoist points. Also gonna need 6 inches of concrete for the hoist pads

+1 for radiant heat in the floor! That is a must, probably the best investment ever for a garage, 10ft ceiling with a loft for "extra parts" or 12ft ceiling with a hoist, i would like to have a drain in the center of my garage but don't know if that is allowed? I didn't do the epoxy floor do to the fact that i paint a lot and there is always a spill, but my next garage will be pristine and only for the trailor queens!

I plan to start on mine in the spring. I'm not getting super carried away, but I need somewheres to work on my engine projects and such.

The nice thing is that my garage is cinderblock and the floor was once painted but its cracked and such now. Really it needs repair, I also plan to cut a service door into the side of the garage so its accessible with the garage door closed.

you need more than 6 inches for the hoist. building code wants you to put footings in.

three people from work have hoists. all had 4 inches and they had to cut out the area for the hoist pads and pour 6 inches.
Postban also has reciently done the same thing
Floor drians are also a big NO NO. My parents old garge had one though. Put the drain in before the cement was poured. Had it about a 1/4 below the surface of the cement. After inspection just hit the surface with a hammer to pop the cement loose and installed the drain cover

haha :icon_eek: awsome idea.

Did someone say heated floor:

And for the record, that is not a drain in the center.

My biggest issue here is my property boundaries. The lot's only 205ish feet deep. I have to be 15' off the property lines, and the corner I'm putting the shop in is not square, it's more like 105 deg. I have a creek to one side of it which limits its width, and directly in front of it is my septic field. So if I make it too deep, I won't be able to turn to get in the bay doors without driving over the drain field.
I figure any large power tools (radial arm saw, mitre table, table saw, drill press, etc...) will be on wheeled bases, so I can store them in the small storage bays when not needed.
I'm considering the radiant floor thing, but it will all depend on how much time I expect to spend out there in the dead of winter. This project car is about done, but there will probably be another in a few years.
Larry, I considered doing that exact thing. I was just gonna run a great big figure eight of drain tile in the sand inside the walls and tie into the floor drains. Luckily, my brother and cousin both do concrete for a living :D
I'm also thinking about cheating with the ceiling height. I'm doing 9' walls supported on one extra row of block, and doing scissor trusses in the lift bay. The other two bays will only be 10'. That way it doesn't look significantly bigger than the house, and i still get the clearance to put the 12' lift. Just gotta keep an eye on it when lifting vehicles. Plus side is there won't be as much volume to have to heat.

My garage is 26x28, 20ft tall w/ 10 ft ceilings and a hoist in it w/ a loft for storing parts. lol It was pretty hard getting the permit because of the city and we had to have them inspect it before we added the stairs and flooring upstairs. The garage was $14,000 for material and we built it. It's nice but nothing like that guys in the pics from that other forums above... and it's alittle messy too! You want some pics of the setup I can take some tomorrow for you.
