Who do you use for internet service? (NOT COMCAST)

Customer service is a LOT better then it was 5 years ago, I'll give them that. But I question the truth of that article since we don't service 50 million people. Its more in the low 20 range. :headscrat The reason customer service is lacking is because with 20 million + people. They have ALL called in atleast once. In my department I fix Internet, phone and TV. I get SCREAMED at 8 hours a day and you just have to take it. Why? It's good money, a fun place to work, and a challenge to build customer service skills. Some employees end up just snapping one day on someone and word of mouth from that subscriber gets around. It will happen to any company. If WOW or AT&T were as large, they would have the same if not worst ratings since they're cust servc reps all don't speak english LOL.

Honestly I don't hate Comcast the way a lot of people do. If their prices were better I'd probably still be with them.

Only real thing that ever pissed me off was when I called their customer service I got channeled to some Indian I could literally not understand. I don't mean he had an accent and it was annoying, I mean I hung up the phone because I wasn't even sure he was speaking english at one point. Every time I've called WOW I've gotten people that speak english perfectly.

That, and I also didn't like that I got strong-armed into using their services at my old apartment complex and they wouldn't cut me any deals on the pricing even after I moved. I'm paying $78/mo now for essentially the same thing that I was paying $112/mo for with Comcast.

I'm glad they're making efforts to improve their customer service, and I know their internet speeds seem to be better overall. If they could just come down on their pricing it would make all the difference in the world IMO. I know they cut deals to people all the time, but they never would with me for some reason. WOW I don't even have to ask twice, they cut me a deal every year because I pay my bill on time (that's what the rep said anyway).

I'll be honest with you, its ALL on what rep you get. Some will go A LOT farther than others. This is being eliminated the best they can. When I first started I got paid for 2 months to train (not talking to customers) 5 days a week. Every single person that works in a call center gets WEEKLY coaching on what they are doing right/wrong. What needs to be improved, etc. If they don't correct these within 2-3 months they WILL be fired. It's a great company to work for with good intentions. Unfortunetly we are still trying to recover from a bad customer service reputation from years ago. It can be expensive when not on a promotion but you can get rolled into another one.

Lifes best saying is It's not about what you know, it's about who you know. You all now know me. :)

Sorry for your issues, wish I would have known. But FYI before I worked here, I've had Comcast my whole life with no problems. (downriver area). We have the fastest residential internet speeds for the money at the moment. We will be introducing DOCSIS 3.0 shortly which will allow speeds of up to 100Mbps in residential homes.

Let this be an example to anyone on here who has Comcast and has an issue please send me a PM and I will take care of it and possibly be able to get you a lower rate as well. It depends on what Corp you live in. The only Corp that has intermittent signal problems is Detroit, because the lines are so old. I don't know why they haven't upgraded them. I would assume because they would get ripped down and the fact a good portion of the subscribers have huge pass due balances, pull SSN scams, etc.

I have not been here that long, but I can tell you the training was damn near 2 months long. I work in a call center and they really DO care about customers. They spend thousands and thousands of dollars every day for constantly training employees and keeping everyone up date. HUNDREDS of calls are pulled daily from my call center alone to ensure call quality. If you have an issue speaking to ANYONE from Comcast ask for a Manager (and make sure your in the Ann Arbor call center) and you WILL get taken care of.
HAHAH thats funny.. my brother worked for comcast and they basically fired him for telling the truth and not giving the "comcast" answer.. comcast cares shit for their customers... thats why theyve been rated #1 worst customer service in the USA 4-5 years running....

on another note... my shit needs to be fixed cause the internet in this area sucks everyone around here has intermittent problems with speed and data transfer issues... if you can do something about this that would be awesome.... ill give you my info if you need it but its the 48043 mount clemens node.... which is actually a far to big node to begin with....

oh and just FYI... comcast doesnt have the most HD channels... they have the most DIGITALLY REPRODUCED HD CHANNELS....

i believe its either Direct or Dish network has the most TRUE HD channels forget which satellite it is

100mbps ?? hmmm where do i start ???? just like the current internet which claims upto 12mbps and if your lucky you get 6mbps if your close to a switch.

don't get me wrong, i like comcast for internet but they make claims that arent real. DSL is junk unless your like 1 mile from a switch station.

not to mention that the modems(mine doesnt anyway) cannot support that speed nor can most computers!

My home computer which is on our Blast Internet (20Mbps) pulls 35+ on speedtest.net. The work machine I'm on now is on DOCSIS 3.0 and pulls 91MbPS on speedtest and there are over 1000 computers in this building. I'm going to let someone else explain to you why you are so wrong its funny on your "switch" station theory. Comcast internet doesn't work like that. It is not DSL. It doesn't matter how close you are to a "switch".

And FYI if you would read the post I said DOCSIS 3.0 will be released in this area SOON. DOCSIS is a complient modems go by, so when it arrives here shortly all new modems will be supplied. But you knew that because you are a mechanical/electrical/nuclear engineer like every guy that calls me right? :headscrat

I'm leaving work now. I'll be back in the morning at 8AM to take care of those PM's. Once I walk out of here I never want to see a computer again. :)

i've had charter for over 2 years now for both internet and cable without one issue. They have not raised my bill once.

I will never go back to comcast. I had to chase an installer out of my house because the stupid bastard drilled a hole in the middle of the wall, a foot off the floor, and sat the modem on my kitchen table, never even asked me where I wanted the modem.

As much as I'd like to stick up for WOW (what I have now) I cannot do so.

It's not about there service quality since I've only had 3 days max of down time (that I know of to care) in 2 years of there service.
It's not about there customer service (yet still have to call them for this issue I am about to tell you).

It's about there billing. I prepay my bill 6 months in advance since that is what I just do and how I pay these types of bills.
I looked at my statement for last month and it says that I will be owing them X amount for my final bill. I have NOT received anything in the mail for my billing saying that it was going up and that I will need to cover the difference. I would have been fine knowing that IMPORTANT information prior. Now when I have to pay my plan again, I have to cough up more than I had anticipated (I live on a tight ship budget) and the money that I had planned to save to put towards bigger fishes to fry I now have to burn it at WOW.

If they decide make me unhappy I will cancel my services and business with them and go another route. I might actually go with comcast even though it would be 5 bucks more a month than I'd really to pay.

It's not really that big of a difference for what my statement says I will owe so I don't see them doing me wrong. If they should do me wrong, I will be PMing you 99silverZ for anything you can pull of at comcast to match the price I was paying or close to it.

I am in Macomb County, I have not once defaulted on my payment, and I never gave WOW a bad marking.

VERIZON FIOS "BEST" Plan

INCLUDES:

Verizon Freedom Essentials unlimited local and long distance calling with Voice Mail, Caller ID and Call Waiting
FiOS Internet 20/5 Mbps plan with more speed for downloading music, movies and photos faster

Same speed as ours, with a slightly faster upload. We offer 100Mbps download in some areas. (Not Metro Detroit yet) I think thats 5x faster than verizon?

you offer 100mbs speed at like 4 places, the 50mb service is barely better than that (coverage). Im in a major city, the headquarters of comcast in-fact and they cannot even provide me with the 50mb service yet. upload speed is great and needed for me

FiOS TV Extreme HD with up to 348 channels, including up to 55 HD channels

We have more than double the HD channels and almost triple the regular channel line up.

yeah for "extra" money. and if dont count "on-demand", comcast doesnt.

FiOS TV premium channels (HBO, Cinemax, the Movie package), including over 45 HD channels

Wow...the same as what every provider offers. Not even half of what we have plus the multi cultural channels we have available.

Cant shake a stick huh? I can go all day. Bring the rain.

PS- GJ on the credit and max. If you complain you can get about anything. :)

the internet is the biggest thing for me, thats why I say you cant shake a stick at it. full fiber-optic will hands down beat 20+year old coax in some places. fiber is the thing thats going to bring 100mb service to everyone just like Japan/china.

not saying comcast is all bad, but they leave a lot to be desired.

100% agreed, the one i just talked to today was great. the other 5 i talked to over the past week since i got the service installed here absolutely sucked. NON of them did what they said they were going to do (ie put in a work order to maintenance to install an amplifier).

Speedtest.net is the biggest bullcrap out there... a trace to a single Server is always gonna report higher DL and UL than actual internet trandsfers because of different data transfer protocols intiated by each individual website/server. The best youll ever see with a standard modem on the 20MBps is 50% or 10MBps MAX and thats with the speed boost that lasts for like 2GB of information within every 24 hour period... not to mention Comcast horrible bandwidth capping for people who use more per month that others

doesnt matter if the modems are equipped for it... Comcast will never supply even near the 100mbps claim because of bandwidth capping on their end

Its absolute garbage, ive had 5 people out here for the same problem (low signal) and they all say I need an amplifier installed at the tap/street. they all leave saying they will put the work order in for maintenance to get on it AND EVER DO! so 2 days later I still see my signal being low and call back to ask what the status is, and what do you know? THEY NEVER PUT IT IN AND SAY THAT THE JOB IS COMPLETE!!!!!!!! its a nightmare, I barely have service let alone the 20mb download im supposed to be getting.
