White Out's engine build thread...

white out

Last year I had the STi running great (over 400awhp). I changed to a new form of engine management, added alky, and had a "professional" tune the car, came out to 390awhp. Two months later... I lost a ring in cylinder two.
I data logged the car and read the tune. Well the professional (Tim Bailey of PDX) is a moron and gave my car a completely fucked up tune. Then found that the Magnus intake manifold had stress cracks and a fuel line had a small leak.
Parked the car and started to piece parts together.
I sent my Axis stage II engine that I had lying around back to Axis for upgrades. It is now an Axis stage III shortblock (Clevitte HP rod bearings, blueprinted engine, crank balanced to 10,000rpm, ARP headstuds, Pauter rods, CP pistons), ported heads, Axis stage II valvetrian, Kelford camshafts, 1mm oversized valves, STi shimless buckets, ported oil pump, and hardened timing belt. I also had the turbo rebuilt, up pipe thermally coated, new fuel lines, bigger alky nossle, 6 puck clutch, and I will be running the oem intake manifold. Once we get the car started and break in done. I will be switching from a pull through maf to a blow through system. Then re-tuning for the changes.
This weekend we are putting all the accessories on the Axis motor and getting it ready to be tossed in the car. Hopefully it will be back on the road within a month. :rockwoot:
Anyways, here are the pictures of the swap. There will be more to come.

That thing will be a little BEAST!!

From the last pic I thought it was a failed attempt at suicide after you saw your piston and intake damage.

Thats looks all to familiar! We use to pull suby motors out once every 2 days at Tuning Factory. You gotta be careful with them, there are sharp edges everywhere! What rotated turbo/kit is that? Looks good what are the HP goals?

How hard are those opposed 4s to pull ?? The body shop next to my work offered us the job of replacing a motor and boss turned it down cause neither him or i have ever messed with one and didnt wana tie up a hoist for a long time..

super easy.
WRX: take off the tmic, intake box, down pipe, front 02 sensor, two bolts for motor mounts, 1 bolt for dogbone mount 0n upper firewall, starter, fuel lines, a/c, coolant hoses, a few clips for the wiring harness, trans.
STi: ^ that, plus remove front halfshafts to get to two bolts. Super easy.
it comes out the top.
Pulling the motor and trans only requires pulling the radiator and jacking the car up a bit more, on top of shifter, clutch, and rear driveshaft.

Sweet ring land failure. Whats the dome of the piston look like.
fine, the ringland stayed in place. I had to hunt down what piston it was after we got all of them out and placed next to eachother.

With Dan I can understand why you guys were pulling so many subaru motors.
It is the Ultimate Racing up/down pipes. The up pipe is thermally coated for quicker spool and lower underhood temps. I am having custom charge pipes fabbed up and sticking a filter on the turbo inlet on. It is a GT35R82 turbo.

Dyno picture? :chairfall

Photodump fucked me and didn't link. Here is the photobucket version. :rockwoot:

The old dyno sheet with the stock maf, a bad tuner, and 19psi on a very low reading mustang dyno (buscher). I am switching to blow through maf and will be in the 30psi range with an extra 1500rpm on top. :)

I've always liked those cars... sounds like its gonna be quite the beast!
Aiming for 550awhp on 93 and alky. :rockwoot:

I already have mud flaps and planning to pick up a roof rack, 18" rota's with blizzacks, and a trailer hitch. So it will be good for the winter, pulling my jet ski, carrying snowboards and bike, and *insert joe dirt comment here*

If there is no detonation carbon blasting off the top of the piston and the chambers looked clean with no plug peppering, It could just be that the rings butted up. Usually thats how pistons break when the ring gaps butt up.

BTW nice blonde there on the roof. Is that an optional accesorie from the dealer or standard options package ??

Dang bro.Looks like your going through what Im right now.Well maybe not as bad, my #6 piston had only 1/4 of the top ring left on it.:mouthshut Good luck with it man

Heres mine.Sean..What do you think the cause on mine was?Only seen 10psi of boost. My pistons are forged, good thing or my ringlands would of looked like Nicks.
