Where to buy furniture

So as some of you probably know, my wife wants new couches and a few matching chairs for the living room. I'm having a serious problem. Here's my dilemma: I want something thats going to last, but at the same time, if I'm going to pay thousands of dollars, it better look exactly how I want it to look to. I refuse to settle for something that looks like shit (in my eyes), but heck...it's gonna last forever. Thats stupid. If it looks like shit, I don't even want to look at it. Get it the fuck out of my living room.

So why don't I buy something that looks good and is quality?? Well...I'm trying to. All the quality furniture web sites I've been on sell stuff that looks like it either belongs in a farm house or a retro bachelor pad. I've seen NOTHING that we even remotely like. What do we like?? Some bullshit at Art Van and Gardner White. Here's a few examples of what we were looking at:

I'm at a loss. This stuff at AV and GW looks amazing, but I know its complete shit quality. Everything thats considered "High End" looks like ass, but is going to last. WTF?!?!? Anyone have any suggestions? The wife and I agree that it HAS to look pretty much like this. Maybe I'm going to spring to action and buy some future firewood here soon. I dont know. Can someone help me?

Take a drive north and look at some Amish furniture. Their shit would probably outlast nuclear war.

This is true. We have some Amish stuff. I would buy that stuff over anything. It's amazing how well that stuff is made.

Looks like you sell some pretty nice furniture. Im a big fan of the carved wood, being all antique-ish looking. Tell your boss to update the site, it was designed in 2001

Lmao are old fashioned. Up until this year we had to use map books in the delivery truck. The map book was from around 2001 lol.

Rule #1 - Furniture is expensive. Good furniture is very expensive. Cost magnitude is all relative.
Rule #2 - The woman gets what she wants. So unless you're single & it's your place, I wouldn't fight the fight if she already has her mind made up.
Rule #3 - Don't get very nice furniture if you have young kids.
Rule #4 - Decide on what style of furniture you like *before* deciding on where to go shopping. Most stores specialize in certain styles.
Rule #5 - Don't buy online w/o being able to see the real thing in person first, at least anything that's significantly expensive.

All that said, if you like Art Vann & Gardner White but want more expensive/quality... then I would look at Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, etc. Surprisingly, Macy's can also have a pretty good selection & good sales.

NC & "Amish" are great if that style fits your desires. You just need to watch it in that those sources generally specialize in all wood furniture and tend to lean towards the "country" side of things. At least, that's been my experience...

Hit up Ru-paul, Mel's (his wife) mom works at the AV in Westland. She's hot and will give you a good deal.

I hate to sound ghetto but Gibraltar Trade Center in Mt Clemens sells Ashley furniture and the couches are made with metal frames. They have a good warranty and are relatively cheap on price.

Gormans has some nice stuff. My wife just spent a small fortune on a leather sectional there.

Yea, you just need to watch witch one you go to. e.g. the one over on Telegraph @ 12 sells very different style than the one in Troy, etc.
