Where is the MAF?

Nope.

It is located INSIDE the airbox.

X2! inside the box itself

a lot of times with that MAF code its either faulty wiring/ loose connections or a bad MAF. Ive found a bad MAF to be the case more often than not.

Laughing...I was only kidding. No difference except the engine cover. You have a VW still don't you?

Im currently VW-less for the first time in about 15 years (before I could even drive, haah).

anyway, have you tried to clean the MAF with MAF cleaner? use ONLY MAF cleaner or 99% isolpropyl alcohol. you dont want to use anything that will leave a film/ residue on the sensor. Its a long shot but worth it to see if it clears up (even a bit) of the drivability issue.

MAF issues with german cars can be a nightmare, had an issue with a 96 jetta 2.0l I had and never found the problem after tracing all wiring, ecu, sensors etc.

if you end up replacing the MAF use ONLY OEM, not remanufactured part store units, ive never had luck with them.

total long shot but have you done a boost leak check? if the maft is reading out fine but the o2 sensors are not seeing the correct exhaust values it may run like crap and default the maf.

hmm, that just reminded me.... I had a "MAF low signal" code once when my intake elbow (plastic) from my MAF to the throttle body (non turbo car) developed a hole. might want to check that.

talked with Pwraddr and he says I need to get a scan tool on it. I checked all the hoses like you guys said per his direction for cracks. All the hoses seem to be fine. He has a scan tool but left his cable at work. So... I'm gna post up to see if anyone has one and is willing to come help me out.
Thanks for all your guys help, Rep points given to everyone
