Wheels not fitting right

i have a 89 notch went from a 15x8 with 4.5 back spacing to a 15x8 5.5 back spacing and the tire is rubbing on the inside i had to put spacers just so the wheels would fit after beating in the inner wheel well

That Is a hell of alot of tire for a 8 Inch rim. Probably should have gone with a 10 Inch wide rim. Thats me $.02 worth.

whats it rubbing on? quad shock? tail pipe? wheel tub?

x2 thats what i still run but with a 10.5 tire and ive gone 1.34 60' without an anti roll bar all twisted up

AA 15 x 8 w/ a 5.5 b.s. should fit. Is the rearend a stock width or is it narrowed? Like Anthony said what's it hitting on?

i will tomorrow i just uploaded some pics of the car to my profile it some what shows the tires and rims on the back of the car

Is it hitting on both sides? I can't imagine you have the only fox in the world that a 5.5 backspace doesn't work. There has to be something not right here. Shortened axle, or something.

I wonder if the original b.s is actually 5.5 not 4.5 and the new ones are 6.5 not 5.5. Double check the backspacing. Like Billydroveit said every fox mustang can fit a 5.5 rim-now a 6.5 will fit but it will need some hammer work in the wheelwell-it's what's on mine (15 x 10 w/ 6.5 b.s.)

x2 on the back space...it is prob a 6 or 6.5....I ran a 28x11.5 on my 8 with 5.5 b.s. and no prob..does it have stock lower control arms? if not you may need to adjust them
