What's your preference to prime the oil system

Hey guys,
I've been a member here for almost two years but rarely see myself over here vs other forums like SVTPerformance and Corral. I'm starting to get frustrated with some of the advise I see people giving others on these other sites. Some people truly think they are good with cars when we all know the truth. Anyways, I'll get to the point. There was a guy that asked for opinions on how to prime his recently rebuilt 4.6 4v. He didn't give any insight as to who did the rebuild or if the pump had been packed prior to assembly, nothing. Of course a few people jumped in and basically said fire it it, it will prime itself just fine. :spank: I know everyone has different ways of doing thins, I'm not looking to start a debate. I'm already involved in one of over there. Lol. My personal opinion, any new rebuild should be primed properly prior to the starter spinning that motor. I've always packed the oil pump with vaseline and primed the system and then I would crank it over without fuel two or three times for no longer than 10 secs each before I fire it up. When your talking about the money it takes to build a motor the right way, I like to do things the safe way they are intended....not just the easiest!! I'm just wondering what you guys have to say. What are your preferred methods? Thanks guys!

It's not easy for a Mod motor (Or anything with a crank-mounted gerotor pump). If it was mine, I would use a pressure tank filled with clean oil, and attach the hose at the oil filter adapter. Push in a few quarts of oil and you're done. I made one several years ago, but sold it with a bunch of Modular stuff.

Without a way to pressure prime it, pull the plugs and crank it in short bursts until you see oil pressure. Re-install plugs and have a nice day.

I Pulled the oil sending unit guage and made an adapter to fit on a cheap 20 dollar bug sprayer. Empty a quart of oil into the sprayer...connect to oil sending unit hole...pump sprayer until pressurized...spray....

You can borrow mine if you need it...It has all the adapters you would need so...let me know

Brilliant.

That's what I do, usually just until I see oil pressure, pack the pump with grease though, same shiz. Tech section here seems decent, you don't see a lot of bad advice-if guys don't know, they don't post from what I've seen.
