What's the skinny on tabacco prices?

Does anyone know how much they are going up exactly? My wife started doing the "roll your own" thing a few years ago when they went up to $5 a pack.
I heard that loose tabacco will go from $20 a bag to about $70?

I also noticed that beer prices went up too. I recently paid just over $20 for a case of shitty Bud light, and $8.50 for a 6-pack of Bud Light lime.

Ive heard from $1.50 per pound to $24 per pound on the loose tobacco. I dont know how much truth there is to it though...I keep hearing different things from lots of people.

$20 a bag to $50ish a bag is what the store owner told me, so i bought 2 big bags and when thats gone Im done with the smoking thing (hopefully)

President Obama's signing of a bill to expand health insurance for low-income children recently has caused a surge of customers to file into The Corona Smoke Shop and leave with several pounds of tobacco.

"Everything I get in, I sell," said store manager Jane Breton. "It's unreal."

That's because the reauthorization of the children's health insurance law contains a massive tax increase on people who roll their own cigarettes.

The Corona Smoke Shop, 305 N. West Ave., is a popular place to buy the 1-pound bags of tobacco that can generate the equivalent of at least two cartons of cigarettes.

A bag can cost between $17 and $22, but after April 1 it will cost about $45.

The bill increases the federal tax from $1.10 to $24.78 per pound.

Cheyenne Parker of Jackson shops for tobacco filters at The Corona Smoke Shop."People are kind of panicked," Breton said. "I've seen people buy as many as 12 pounds."

Gov. Jennifer Granholm is attempting to piggy back on the federal increase with a proposal to double the state tax on the 1-pound bags, making a $20 bag now cost $60 to $70. It is believed Senate Republicans will block Granholm's attempt to pass the state increase.

im still smoking 3.23 packs of marlboro reds. i brought some cartons back with me when i was last in florida. i dont think its illegal being that im not selling them, YET, lol jk. but this is getting outragous.

How about cigars? Are they going up too?

From what I heard yes.

I think that the cigarette tax is going from like .39 to 1.01

Granholm is also looking to increase the Michigan tax on everything.

I'm gonna buy 2 or 3 packs before the 1st and then when they are gone I am done smoking. I am finding it hard to justify nearly $7 for a pack of cigarettes no matter how much I enjoy smoking!

Quit smoking.

/tobacco concerns

Al=Worst ex smoker EVER :lol:

x2.

On the real, if any of you truely plan on quitting why wouldn't you just stop now? If you want to quit then you don't need a reason/excuse.

To be honest I really don't want to quit.....I am going to be quitting because the price is getting out of hand.....which is now making me want to quit. I have quit enough times before to know that if you don't REALLY want to quit, it won't work.

SCHIP Legislation Details

The new tax rates are effective April 1, 2009;

The cigarette tax rate goes from $.39 per pack to $1.00 per pack;
The tax on snuff goes from $.585 per pound to $1.50 per pound;
The tax on pipe tobacco goes from $1.0969 per pound to $2.8126 per pound;
The tax on RYO goes from $1.0969 per pound to $24.62 per pound (not a typo).

Additionally the definition of RYO has been expanded to include cigar wrappers to address the “blunt wraps” issue;
The tax change to small cigars (cigars weighing less the three (3) pounds per thousand will be phased in over five (5) years at the following rates per year:
2009 & 2010 - $.25 per pack
2011 & 2012 - $.50 per pack
2013 & 2014 - $.75 per pack
2015 and beyond - $1.00 per pack

Large cigars will be taxed at 40 cents per cigar starting April 1. That is up from a nickel per cigar.

How the hell can the tax on RYO go up that much? That shit is a joke. People found a good, cheaper way to smoke and they stomped that right out. The last thing the government wants is for people to actually quit smoking.
Soom it will be cheaper to smoke weed all day. :)

Wait till they figure out a way to tax nekkid pictures on the internet too.:rocketwho
