whats the best TV/internet subscriber?

IIRC WOW only offers 3mb down and 750kbps up speeds on there internet in the greater Oakland county area. comcast just bumped my house to 12mb d and 6 mb up. Absolutely redonkulous speed.
i can get wow 15mb internet here. They were saying that comcast has 15mb with powerboost which only gives you a good download speed at the beginning and then tapers down. Also wow doesnt have caps on usage either.

It seems like wow has better internet and better pricing overall. I called them and when i told them i wasnt so sure and might go to comcast...they kept just throwing promotional deals at me to get my service.

Besides having to call comcast every 6 months to get back on their promotion deal they are pretty good. That is by far my biggest beef with them...

Until they say

"Uh Ahh no way Mr 10 Year Customer" Get Bent and go Pound sand. We are not giving you the promotional rate anymore.
Like they did for me. My bill almost doubled and they were absolutely rude on the phone after calling and waiting over and over with them. Also got a $1100 bill in the mail after their F-Up with Returning of the equipment. I could go on!

Did I tell you I hate Comcast?

They say you can do it as many times as you want as long as there is a current promotion going on when you want to renew the promotion. If they aren't running any promotions when you call after 6 months you're screwed. The worst part is their promotion rate is the only thing that keeps them competitive with other companies standard rates.

Was not true in my case!

Me either. They played ball for a couple years then finally told me to go pound sand.

I've had to play the same game with WOW too, but they're doing well so far... 8/1mb internet, HD DVR, extra digital box in bedroom... for $84 a month including taxes and such. Was actually $79 until a couple months ago but that's not enough for me to bitch about yet. If it goes any higher I'll give them a ring.

Has Wow improved their UI for cable? Always reminded me of 8bit Nintendo games. Had their cable and internet for ~5 years. great service. Switched to Att internet speed went down a little but gained lots of channels for the same price. also had to go from having about 5 tvs hooked to cable (2 w/boxes on wow) down to just 2 tvs on att since you have to pay for every box over 1. Thats not necessarily a bad thing. IMHO.

i havent checked speeds, but it was noticably slower than comcast and it isnt reliable, its always cutting out

I've had U-Verse for a few years now with no cable or internet issues. Personally I like the DVR and option to record many shows at once and still watch whatever you prefer to watch.

i have comcast and no complaints. been very reliable. my inlaws have directtv and to me its garbage. they have a great channel lineup but good luck with any kind of weather at all. it could be humid out and the shit stops working.

I went from 18MB Comcast to 18MB Uverse...night and day difference in favor of Uverse. Comcasts "speed boost" compresses the first 50MB or so, so it looks like its coming in very fast. After that, the speed drops like a rock. I consistently max out my Uverse connection while downloading from Rapidshare or Megaupload, well seeded torrents, and just general large downloads from various other websites. Comcast fluctuated quite a bit, and never got maxed out.

sounds to me like an install issue. I've never head a problem, other than an extreme storm in the summer. And how often do those happen? I'm willing to not have service for a few minutes while a storm passes through, than to deal with Comcast cable garbage. Their advertising is so deceptive regarding their HD lineup. individual Shows DO NOT count as HD programming...

DirecTV FTW!

Don't you mean who is the best internet/TV provider? ;)

Honestly its all gonig to depend on your location, how old the house is and what way the wind is blowing. I have Comcast, because I work for them. Even before I worked here, I had Comcast and it worked fine. Right now I'm on the 20Mb plan, and will constantly get 30+Mb/s download. I have six computers running of it for games online, zero lag. On the 360 I get no lag and its fast for browsing the internet.

For the TV I have every channel available of course, really doesn't give me an issue. Every once in a long while my video on demand will have a problem. I do the thing that every person with an ounce of common sense should do, power cycle the box, wait 5 minutes and its good to go. If I wasn't an employee I'd still be happy.

For what its worth, all of you with Comcast on a promotion rate, don't expect to call and bitch to get them to rebundle you anymore. We have a huge profit loss for January alone compared to 2009 due to rebundling. We had a very big meeting today and the company is willing to lose customers in order to keep the ones who see the value behind our products. When your on a promotional rate, reguardless what you think or not, the company doesn't make that much money.

alright just curious what people like. These are the options from what i've found

comcast
  • most expensive, but i like its setup
  • best internet
  • pain in the ass when you ever have to talk to someone at comcast, long wait times, etc

  • Call outside of the hours of 5:30PM-8:30PM and you should have a two minute wait at the most. I work in the Ann Arbor call center and deal on average of 60-80 customers a day. I would say ONE or TWO at the most aren't satified with me. That is usually because they are an absolute idiot, or are unwilling to let me help. I have had multiple people send letters to the coportate office on on a "job well done". Believe me they are trying to weed out the bad apples, but not everyone cares about their job as much as I do.

No service provider is perfect, and you will hear a lot of bitching about Comcast. The bottom line is we don't have millions of subscribers for no reason. The service is expensive, but the benifits are worth it. If you don't see them, switch to a different company.

U-verse = Cool user interface, decent pricing, terrible outsourcing of customer service, lots of fine print on installation charges

WOW- Average. Really thats the only work. Average everything, I've had there service before and it wasn't anythnig special but I had zero problems with it. No problems with billing or cancelling. Decent Company.

    DirectTV- Love/hate, no in between.

Comcast would go bankrupt if this happened. When companies lose profit and are continuing to lose demand they are doomed if they don't decrease their expenses, increase the quality of their product, or decrease the price in hopes for more customers. Expecting the few people that allow comcast to keep them afloat with their non-promo rates is retarded. Those customers will slowly trickle away when they find more competitive providers.

Exactly. Im paying $55 a month for an 18/2 connection, and the speed is consistent 99% of the time. I jumped the Comcast ship as soon as Uverse was available. I actually use both. Comcast for TV and AT&T for internet. The only reason why I dont use AT&T for my TV is I cant run bare wire, I have to have a box for each TV.

Someone who gets paid more than you and I put together x 2 came up with the idea. Don't ask me I'm just passing the information along. For as long as I can remember Comcast has NEVER posted a year end profit loss. They know what they are doing. You would be truley suprised how many accounts I see at retail pricing every day and people can care less. Why? Because the service is an entertainment and it works well for them. They are happy with the value they are recieving for their money. Period.

As I said in in my previous post, if you don't like Comcast, switch to a different povider. Then ask me if I really give a damn. I come to work, do my job to help as many people as I can, the best I can. After my shift ends, so does my hospitality. Anyone local has no decision in this. All of these come from a corporate level and I don't agree with half the shit, but its all about money. Whatever they think is best for the companys future is what they will do.

Comcast can go screw themselves, they don't want new customers, they are the only cable provider i called that wouldn't offer free install

so i went with WOW

just one of the reasons im going with WOW. Saves me ~$75 for the install. I get a $25 off the first month of service, free modem rental, free hbo for 6 months, and an overall cheaper setup than comcast. I'll try out WOW first, then depending on how that goes try comcast too after a few months and see which i like more.

i'm either going to do the 8mb or 15mb internet...anybody got any reccomendations? Seems like 8mb should be as fast as i need it for, and the 15mb is an extra $10 a month.

Honestly anything beyond 6Mb/s is worthless for an average every day user. If you just go online and watch videos and surf the net 8 is plenty fast.

i download large files everyone once in a while...but still seems like 8mb should be fast enough? What type of download speeds can you actually see with that type of connection?
