alright just curious what people like. These are the options from what i've found

comcast
  • most expensive, but i like its setup
  • best internet
  • pain in the ass when you ever have to talk to someone at comcast, long wait times, etc
uverse
  • i have it now as an alternative to comcast and don't like it
  • the internet is garbage
  • still better price than comcast
wow
  • seems to be priced very well
  • i dont really know anything about it
direct tv
  • i heard they have the best hd channels and its priced well
  • free install
  • bad internet
dish network
  • don't know anything about it

anybody got anything to add? I just got a new house and am having a hard time deciding what service to go with.

Internet is probably going to be comcast since they have the best service around, but they are still expensive @ $65 a month. I'm not so sure about what to do for TV

I've had directv for 6 years, and love it! They're getting ready to launch more HD channels this year as well, as they just launched another satellite into orbit a couple months ago.

For internet, its a tossup between comcast and wow. depends on who is in your area.

I have WOW and both tv/internet work well never any problems , but there price seems to go up every year

My folks and sister have WOW and love it. They also got a deal on DVR's and a bunch of other shit that I'm jealous over.

Have had WOW for a couple years now. I have their 8/1mb package and the speed is great. TV has always been good too, although I've never seen DirecTV's HD to compare.

depends on usage http://broadband.mpi-sws.org/transparency/bttest.php

read up on throttling and caps. Comcast is the worst for anything but basic web browsing and game play. But if that's all you do, you should be fine. I was very happy with my comcast back in the day. But the p2p reporting, even on legit stuff for work, and freeware is ridiculous. Alot of video games use p2p to speed up patch downloads and is also throttled by comcast!

No cable here, but we use Verizon wireless
broadband for internet & its great! I also
signed up when the usage was (& is) unlimited.

It is really nice having internet anywhere /
everywhere we go - including as we travel
in the car.

Uverse here and have had ZERO issues. I upgraded to the higher Internet speed (not the highest) and noticed no difference in speed from switching from Comcast. I honestly was soooooo fed up with Comcast (had been a customer for 10 years) and they were so non-helpful and willing to help it was sickening! It is also cheaper for me. Plus had a good ordeal with instalation.

I am getting pissed all over again just thingking about all the BS I had with Comcast.

Isnt U-Verse really DSL?

VDSL

VDSL or VHDSL (Very High Bitrate DSL)[1] is a DSL technology providing faster data transmission (up to 52 Mbps downstream and 16 Mbps upstream)[2] over a single flat untwisted or twisted pair of copper wires. These fast speeds mean that VDSL is capable of supporting high bandwidth applications such as HDTV, as well as telephone services (Voice over IP) and general Internet access, over a single connection.

I have Brighthouse Cable right now and have issues with Vonage and Skype dropping calls all the time. Skype video calls don't last more than a minute before they get cut off. Right now I'm assuming that the 512k upload speed is what's killing it. U-Verse upload speeds are 1Mb or more depending on which tier you subscribe to.

i havent checked speeds, but it was noticably slower than comcast and it isnt reliable, its always cutting out

I've had Uverse for almost 3 years now. I use their 3MB internet service and have never had an issue with "cutting out" or even bandwith max-out. I use it for Xbox live online play as well as skype with no latentcy issues at all.

The HD picture quality is decent enough as well. FWIW

I should come over to your house and try Skype on my netbook from your network just to make sure that it's my network/bandwidth causing my problems.

We have problems with Skype, but it's usually set-up - initializing the web cam/microphone. Once we restart the stupid application seven or eight times on both ends and everything's working, we haven't had a dropped call yet. No idea which 'package' we currently have, we just had it changed to something cheaper they were offering @ $97/month combined (no phone).

IIRC WOW only offers 3mb down and 750kbps up speeds on there internet in the greater Oakland county area. comcast just bumped my house to 12mb d and 6 mb up. Absolutely redonkulous speed.
