what would you do? on the fence

I sold my orange car last summer. It was pretty much a race car. Would drive it a few miles around town sometimes. Got to be more expensive and more of a hassle than it was worth. While it was a cool car to have it didnt get used much and was kind of a waste. Ended up getting another mustang that is still pretty quick but also streetable. So far I am happy with my decision and have had way more fun with the new car on the street.

Picture of both cars

They all end up turning into projects no matter what its supposed to be. Stick with 1 project, 1 is expensive enough as it is!

It's all about what is fun to you, I was fine going bottom 10's and having the car drive all over with no issues

Most street cars aren't low 10s. That's moving out.
My C5 has similar performance and is still streetable. Is it fun to climb over monkey bars, strap yourself in and then puts around town in traffic?
Once in a while, sure, but to me the fun is in going fast, and doing that on the street isn't worth the risk.
I know all of us have different goals .. I'm just giving my .02.

Guess the adrenaline depends on the boat you have
Well sure, but when he mentioned a ten+ year old maro I assumed he wouldn't be in the market for a race/speed boat.

I had a 22' Regal bow-rider with a wakeboard tower for a number of years. We definitely had a lot of fun with it for a long time. That was back when $2/gallon felt outrageous.

I boated 51 hours last summer ..
That is a ton of use. Very few people in Michigan get that sort of use out of a boat.

Can't take my almost 4 year old daughter in a race car, and let's face it....it sucks sitting all day at the drag strip if you aren't working or driving a car.
I agree, totally. I wouldn't want to bring young kids. It's not an appropriate place for little kids IMO.

I got back into cars I would probably build a road car! What do you have?
I have an 08-Z06 with a few boltons. It's a ball.

After talking with my fiance about it , I believe it I'm going to go the Camaro route. to me right now, it makes the most sense both financially and as a way to do things together with the family. I appreciate the response, and now I'm going to go about planning my finances And looking for the car that I want

If I owned a race car id slit my wrists. Taking a car to the track racing it and then working it on the rest of the week doesn't work with my schedule. I work 50-70 hrs, the spare time I do have I wanna go have fun. My vette took me to the boat multiple times this summer, cruised woodward, raced it on the street and still made some solid passes at the track. Id take a street car any day over a race car

The cage don't bother me at all, I am so used to it I find my self getting into all my cars like they have a cage lol.

Great! What do you have? We did it this summer also, just got the DVD in the mail today.

personally, I own a pontoon boat! haha. but my uncle is the mechanic/builder at American custom marine.

we were up 2 years ago, and partied with the guys from NAS-T for a little bit on Friday night.

I was also supposed to be up there this year again, but something came up with my buddies I that I go with and we couldn't go last minute. will be there in 2014 though!

I agree with the street route I de tuned my race car and made it into a car that I could cruise in with plush carpet sounds interior And I had more fun last summer than any other. The way the racing scene is today you would be better off down the road to buy a race car already done which people are selling them everyday.enjoy TODAY you can race when you get old just for kicks.Racing was fun and cheap in the old days most of us have been there done that.Remember the saying "if you can't run with the big dogs stay on the porch"

Mike at American Custom?

I know Hunter, we boated with him a few times the last couple summers. Nice guy.

Have you given any thought to doing this?

No time. They all work 50-70 hours per week, go to school, have kids, and volunteer at the soup kitchen.
Plus knitting can be dangerous. Have you ever poked your finger with one of those needles? The ER bills would add up.
No need to risk that sort of injury when boating is exciting, practically free and no maintenance is involved. And best of all their screaming brats can go with them.

All kidding aside, I always sort of thought one of the great parts of racing (drag or road) was that the adults could leave their wives/kids at home and actually go out and enjoy themselves.

you'll get far more enjoyment out of the street car. I have had my Z28 for going on ten years and to this day I never get tired of driving it.

Heads/Cam/Headers/Tune/4.10 Gear, 6 speed and t-tops. It's so much fun and I have never not enjoyed driving it.

My 10 year old catback is done but I plan on cutting that off in the next few weeks and having it sent back in under warranty for a new one and that will make it even more enjoyable. I can't wait to drive that car again in the spring.

Consistently, since I've gotten that car, pulling it out of the garage for the first time in April has been one of the best feelings ever. It feels like a new car when coming from a DD and feeling all that torque at your foot.

The Z28 you're thinking of is the best bang for the buck. However, at the price that those go for, I would go for SS only. No question. Don't even bother with a Z28.

Boating is a fine way to spend an afternoon, but it's not exactly an adrenaline rush and it gets repetitive .. to say nothing of the short season. Racing season is much longer than boating season..

Just my .02.

83mph in my 25' sunsation is the biggest adrenaline rush I've ever had....

To be honest, I don't know either, just know the place.

He is a good guy. The stereo in both his cat and his dads CC is awesome.

you aint kiddin.

a lot of people don't know what speed on water feels like. ive been 100+ a few times and there aint nothing like it.

Went 152 in a 40 Skater.....beyond a rush. My boat runs 80, which is a nice speed for a 34' with a vacuflush, airconditioning, big stereo, fridge, microwave, etc.

is there really a big difference between the ss a and a z28? The ss I have been able to find are crazy $. While I do love a ss, as long as it is a drop top, 6 speed, with chrome zr1 I'd be pretty happy. I do love the duck bill spoiler on a ss though
