What should I do?

So I took the car out yesterday for a spin and during a power shift the clutch started slipping bad:mad:. My trans is the original SROD 4 speed that came with the car new in 1982. I know I want to replace the trans with something better but with what I don't know. I love manuals but I also would love an automatic if it performed well. My question is what automatic trans is the best to use to build up...C4, C6, AOD, AODE...???? Or should I just swap it out for a T-5 or T-56?

The car is an 82 GT with a very mild built 302.

depends on what you want to do with it... i would stick with the stick just because of the amount of work and cost of doing the swap... but a built up aode is awesome aswell because you can still take your car on the highway

i agree with the above... it all depends on what you want to do with the car and how much power youre planning on making. personally, id keep it a stick.

also depends on how much you want to spend. for cheap go stock T5. if you want 6 gears and nothing in your bank account, go T56.

I love a loose automatic from a dead dig. Leaning on the converter from a roll when the boost comes on is pretty sweet too. On the other hand I don't like a 3 speed automatic with a loose converter on the freeway. Turning 3000 rpm at 55 mph sucks.
