What shifter should i use ?

I have a 90 v8 Mustang and it had a stick shift and theres a huge hole in the tunnel......Do you guys weld a plate on there so you can use any shifter ?? I`m putting in a forward th400.......i`m hoping that i can use a shifter that will use the stock leather shifter boot ??? Any pics would be great......
 
Wow, Surprised nobody responded on this one yet. I haven't swapped one from an manual to a GM trans but, I have done one from a manual to a C4 auto. You should be able to use an aftermarket shifter made for a C4 trans. B&M make a nice one that should mount correctly and the cable has plenty of adjustment so you shouldn't have any trouble getting the gears to line up with the shifter.

So what did you do with the trans you pulled out? I am looking for a T5. One that works would be great but I would also take one that needs to be rebuilt. I am swapping a 90 LX 5.0 auto to a T5. I would be interested in the flywheel, bell housing, fork, trans, and shifter. . I have the pedals and cableSend me a PM if you have it still and would want to sell it.
 
buy the cover/shifter mount from holcom, it uses the factory 4 bolt holes and drops the shifter low enough to sit in the factory location. I have one in my car and its awesome. Way better then trying to finagle something together in the garage and the shifter never really being tight with the floor

Back when i had my 93 Mustang i bought the B&M console shifter but the travel from park to first gear was wrong for my th350 trans............i ended up haveing it only go half way into park and it barely worked.....
i got this car as a roller so no trans...sorry
 
Thanks Jordan i might just do that... Also what shifter are you useing ?? Hopfully its not for a c4 or you might have the same problem i did and that was a big pita to make work...

IMO the cheetah shifter is probably the best one for racing and ease of use. And they accept an air shifter.
