What oil?

So the first oil change on the motor in my '99 Cobra is coming up... any of you mod motor guys on here have any suggestions on what oil to use? Fords spec is a Motorcraft synthetic blend...and people tell me that if running full synthetic was going to reduce a significant amount of warranty claims Ford would have specced a 15 dollar more expensive oil change....and the SVT forums have a huge variety of recommendations... the car doesn't really get driven that hard...and its mostly stock ...for now...(winter is when the blower is planned to go on.... :))

what would you guys suggest running?

sorry for the noob question

I have a all stock 2003 Mach 1. I use only what the owners manual says to use. 5w-20 motorcraft with a motorcraft oil filter and oil changes every 3,000 miles. And the car does get raced every now and then.

Just like everything else, you get what you pay for.
Group III base stocks are considered synthetic motor oil ONLY in the United States. Group III based lubricants, also refered to as "fully synthetic" are not allowed to be marketed as "synthetic" in any market outside of the USA.

Did not know that! Thank You. So what would be a good true fully synthetic oil?

The term "fully synthetic" and its use comes from a law suite out of California(big surprise there) . You can goggle information about the history, but basically Castro started selling Synthetic oil as synthetic oil because their base materials were re engineered, or "man made" making it synthetic. Oil manufactures that still produced synthetic oils were outraged. Mobil at the time produced synthetic oils using pao base stock, and they sued Castro for claiming their oil was " fully synthetic" .
The Courts, in a decision that shocked everyone in the oil industry ruled that the process that Castro was using could use the term "fully synthetic" and refer to their oil as synthetic oil. Several oil company's (Mobil included, since Exxon purchaced the name) jumped on the band wagon and started producing Hydrocracked/Hydroisomerized oils and marketing them as "fully Synthetic" because its cheaper to produce.
Theres lots of oil companies that still use pao base materials for their oil. Like I said, you get what you pay for.
The fully synthetic oils are good oils, and better than conventional motor oils. They just dont preform and last like pao base oils.
