what many horses can a 4l60 trans hold?

How big of barn is this 4l60? Is it 40x60? U can put a few horses in that. Lol
It comes down to how much money u have an what your putting behind it.

RPM has built some 4L60's that have gone deep into the 9s. I have a 4L60 that was built by Mike Ridings that put up with 400hp plus a 150hp hit of nitrous with no problems at all. They almost always need a stronger sunshell and other good stuff to live at that power level. The transmission is basically just an electronic version of a TH700, so anything a 700 can do a 4L60 can also do.

good build, good driver they can take some power. If you abuse it, it will die at stock HP levels. What is your plan? My 4L65e in my AWD Silverado is going to have different stress than a 2wd camaro.

I have heard alot of the truck guys go to a 4L80e and regret they wasted money getting the 60 to last(or multiple rebuilds to end up swapping the trans to a 80)

How is that 4L65-E holding up in that monster?

well since you ask...my current 4L65e and converter were built by motown's most wanted Mike Ridings :) and I enjoy 3200 flash stalls with all four wheels spinning :)

well heres the back story I'm looking into buying a shortblock and I can get a package deal with a 4l60,but if it needs some work to be compitent under heavy power,id rather take the money and have a glide or th400 done up

LSx stuff is coming down in price, espically with the GEN IV stuff...Gen III 6.0's are all over the place for decent.
how much is you package deal??

its 1000 for a fresh 6.0 shortblock with fresh 4l60 with 2800 stall and hurst shifter not sure im gonna do it though fedex is killing me on shipping

Boils down to the application and how deep your pockets are. HP is one thing. RPM and weight also are big factors. If this is for strictly off road usage/drag racing, then having a od would be useless/
If its a DD or weekend car, for cruising, and you plan on plenty lengthy rides @ 70+ mph
With very little $ in aftermarket parts, using stock planters, stock input drum & output shaft and your using it in roughly a 3500 lb car, 4L60E's can easily handle 500hp/500ft lbs.

They seem to be very hit and miss once you get a 3500lb car running faster then 10.90's.Some will live others will not. The first gear ratio is a disaster however for cars running faster then 10.50's.

I only hit mine with a 175hp shot once, but that time it went faster than 10.50s and the Mike Ridings 4L60 had no issues. I'm sure it won't last forever if I keep spraying it that hard, but it's been perfect so far. The first gear might be steep but it worked that pass, low 1.4x short time.

i'll let you know at the end of summer how it works in my 4000lb turd

Is your car a streetcar at all? just curious because I am no sure if you are joking about the weight of the car and it’s a joke or if you just have a lot of aftermarket stuff added on to add the extra weight to make one of those cars weigh that much. all of this based on the fact that I am assuming that you do not weigh 500 pounds.
