I been trying to change the oil my dads 06 F-150 for three days now...I cant get the damn oil filter off for the life of me, i have tried it all..the socket wrench attatchment just slips over the filter, the band wrech just slides and crushes the filter, and i cant get a set of big channle locks on it.....WTF do i DO!?! i really dont feel like paying some fast eddy $20 to get a filter off. and i already thought about hammern a screwdriver through the side of it and trying to turn it but im sure it'll just make matter worse...

????????????????

I bought the attatchment that fits the end of the filter exactly and goes on a 3/8" rachet. Makes filter changes a breeze.

I've done the 'ol hammer and screwdriver trick a few times... it works!

make sure you put a little oil on the rubber seal when you put it back on.. that way the rubber won't melt to the block.

it took me awhile to fig it out on my father in-law's 05 he had, i told him to sell it and get something else or i wasnt going to ever change his oil for him again, it worked :D i cant remember exactly how i did it, but i know i used a band type wrench

Hammer + screwdriver for the win...it works. But yes it's retarded how tight they put those things on...I had to use a breaker bar to get off my gf's oil drain plug when I changed her oil this weekend...and I was really cranking on it!

i used the 3/8 socket attatchment and it just slides around. the more i mess with it the wores it gets. and yes i know to lube the seal but im guessing ford doesnt do suck thing? and its about 400 turns too tight....maybe i'll just screwdriver the damn thing

Using the rachet adapter, put a layer of duct tape (fold in half lengthwise sticky out) around the inside of the adapter that fits on the end of the filter. It works everytime. They use air tools at the factory to put them damn things on.

I'm just affraid that if i hammer the screwdriver through it and try to wurn it that it wil just shred the filter in half, then i will be totally screwed and half to have it towed.....wow i remember when oil changes used to take me 5 minutes, not 5 days...

I had the same thing a few years ago with a 3/8" oil end cap wrench. My wife watched me for a while, went inside got the round rubber gripper thing for opening jars. I put it between the wrench and the filter, and it came right off. Women.

Thanks i'll try that...... DUCT TAPE! IT WHAT YOU NEED!

I have an attachment for my ratchet that grips tighter as you turn to loosen the filter. It has 3 fingers that tighten around the filter. This is the only thing that has worked consistently for me. Got it at Autozone.

I broke a strap wrench (That left some bloody knuckles!):banghead:, the chain wrench always crushed the filter rather than loosening it:banghead:, and that stupid end cap wrench never stayed on to loosen the filter:banghead:. But that grip wrench works every time.:)

Now that you say it i remember using that same attatchment when i worked at a dealership 2 years ago, ironicly on my dads 04 f150 when it had the same problem....i didnt know you could get those at autozone, if the duct tape doesnt work then im going to pick one of those bad boys up tonight. IF all else fails im going to pull the motor :)

they make pliers that you can get that arent quite channel locks but work the same way, that what i used on a buddys car when we couldnt get his off with a strap wrench.
