What kind of dog??

Stalker...patman made a comment about reaching over the fence and petting the dog. Which is why I said that.

Obviously you need to do more training on reading a dog. I can lend you someDVD's which are awesome and show the dogs while active displaying behaviors. Raised hackles really mean nothing. Yes they CAN be an indicator of aggression. But they CAN ALSO be a sign of excitement. You can not judge a dogs behavior from 1 picture. That is the point there are MANY indicators that show fear, stress aggression. But it is the package of the behaviors all together that will read the dog. You can not tell that from 1 picture. You also can not tell that from a dog who barks in its yard as almost all dogs do.

FYI pit bulls are not "trained" to fight. They can be conditioned to be better fighters, but not trained. Their drive to fight starts in the genetic make up of the dog. That is why winning dogs are breed more. WHich does not make a difference because dog aggression has nothing to do with people aggression and wouldn't be an indicator that the dog would bite a kid. actual real fighting dogs are breed to be loving and tolerant of humans as they have to be handled by the other dogs owners and split up during fights.

I am not saying whether the people do or do not have a right to be concerned about this dog. Just expressing my frustration that it is almost definitly based on the fact they believe it is a pit bull. It is very frustrating.

Can a pit bull do a lot of damage. They most certainly can. They are an incredibly strong, muscular and athletic breed. Just because they can, doesn't mean they will. Also...rottwielers have a stronger jaw than a pit bull :D

I guess my point is if they have a concern about the dog why wouldn't they go over there and talk to the people!

As I said above....I can understand the concern and am quite familar with the hysteria. I spend countless hours educating people about the breed.

I have a right to be frustrated and sometimes I show it. Sometimes I don't.

also see above regarding the the damage that can be done by the breed. YEs they can, doesn't mean they will. There are numerous breeds that can do alot of damage...actually way too many to list. I don't think it is reckless to say that other breeds can and do bite and do damage.

Call me whatever you want. As of late I don't even bother with this bullshit. Too many of you living under the cover of media hysteria to bother with.

Are you feeling guilty? I never mentioned your name.

Nope. I now it was directed at me. :flip:

What?

Seriously, If you didn't act like such a know it all when it comes to dogs, people would probably give you more respect and wouldn't give you so much shit. The way Tahopp did it was the way to go. No one likes to be talked down to. It doesn't matter what anyone says, if you don't agree with them, then they don't know what they're talking about. It gets old that's all.

Have a great evening!

Shelly, not once has it been said that all bully breeds are evil, that we should run in fear of them or any other broad generalization. It's been stated the facts that the bully breeds are much more powerful than their counterparts. I don't think they should all be destroyed or anything else for the matter. You're generalization that these people only fear this dog just because it looks like a bully breed is more of a broad brush stroke than anything anyone else has said. You criticize me for making a judgement call off of one picture and yet you do the same thing. You think the people are ludicrous for fearing the dog yet all you have is the information that the people are concerned that the dog could get out and hurt someone.

As for reading the dog, I'm not perfect in any means nor am I dogmatic about what this dog is. I haven't met the dog, so I can't be. What I can tell you is that a firm stance, a solid eye contact, and ears back 99% of the time does not indicate a dog who is just looking for you to throw the ball. The dog is obviously vocal which is common around their territory. Either the dog is in fear (In which case it can and will attack) or it's protecting it's territory (In which case it can and will attack). That's all that I am saying.

Opal will bark at people who come in the house, but it's out of fear. She will run and hide the instant eye contact is made and her anal glands excrete. She's a very submissive dog who is afraid of anything new. Obviously you could never take that from a single picture, but the right picture would put you down the path to figure that out. That is all that is being said. people are concerned for the safety of their kids and the question is a good one since we do have so many people on the board who know much about dogs.

As to why they haven't asked their neighbor... I don't know. Perhaps they haven't met the neighbor yet. (I believe they said they just moved in). They may feel it's an aggresive approach to just go knocking on the door of the neighbors house say "Hi, we just moved in, is your dog vicious"? So asking people by a picture may just as well give them part of the answer that they want. Or possibly by knowing what the breed of the dog is they can relate better to the neighbor. "Hey, I noticed you have an albino boxer. That's a pretty cool and rare dog". Friendship started without the neighbor wondering why they have bullybreed hating neighbors who just moved in and accuse their dog of something it's not done.

Evans dogs, both pitbulls will bark ferociously at anything and can look intimidating but are big pussies that are afraid of anything. Alot of dogs bark at strangers, but it doesnt mean they are going to attack

There's talk of how much damage a bully can do compared to others. Children are the one's in question in the first post. It doesn't take a bully to do a lot of damage to a child I would think.

Discuss.

Thanks I will.

I am not a know it all when it comes to dogs, cats or any animals. I do know everything, however know alot of different things about animals. Which I shouldn't feel the need to defend myself about.

I could care less whether you like my approach or not to be honest. My approach isn't always as abrasive, but I guess that doesn't matter because I obviously know nothing. I don't care for your approach either. I also don't care for you speaking for everyone...because you don't!

You have a great night too

Very good points Ryan :bigthumb:

Admittedly I sometimes become defensive for little reason when it comes to bully breeds and animals in general. This as you know is because it is something I am quite passionate about.

As far as the behavior and the picture. I think we are both saying the same thing. Which is truly you can't tell from one picture.

Very good point!

I guess shes going to put up a privacy fence in the spring, i've never seen the dog all the times i've dropped my kid off there, i just seen the post on her facebook asking about the dog so i figured i'd get some ''expert'' opinion off motown.

Probably the easiest fix.

Hope he/she isn't like the hellions that live around me

I have one that was jumping into my yard over the 4' fence. Then I put up a 6' privacy fence and she started digging under! Silly little dog  The dog that lives kitty corner behind us. He pretty much bounces of the corner of the fence barking nonstop any time I am in the yard with or without my dog.

My bad. You are right and I am wrong. Please except my apologies. I eagerly await anything that you have to say about animals from now on!

I truly hope that you have a great day.
