what driveshaft material should I use?

DarkoStoj

A mysterious figure named Darko
thinking 1350 joints, but not sure on what material...aluminum...steel? Any specific type? I want to build it to be able to handle say 1000whp lauching at 6k on slicks. I DONT want a driveshaft breaking.

The only benefit of Aluminum is that it will take some vibration out of the drive train. I needed a 5-6 inch diameter drive shaft for my car that was going to cost like $600 dollars. I got a tempered steel one i believe 3 1/2 or 4 inch with a .68 thick wall. The Aluminum is weakest at the welds and will always fail there first. Tempered steel is the way to go. An aluminum drive shaft is not going to make anyone's car faster. My DS is rated to spin over 10,000 RPM and take 1,600hp.

The driveshaft is the least of your worries. You better be more concerned with rear end and transmission carnage from 1000hp high rpm launches.

Call up Dynotech and tell them what you want, they will build it to suit you.

X2

Just ordered one from them a couple weeks ago and they were excellent to deal with. They'll tell you exactly what you need. The end product was beautiful too.

I'd second the guess of Chrome Moly, probably at least 3.5".

1000 whp.... Baller

Is this the same car that gets pulled over on Woodward. Being told it does not belong on the road on a nice Sunday stroll?
