I'm thinking about buying one. What do you guys think? 5.7 or 6.0 doesn't matter, let me know the pros and cons. I've seen some 2004 5.7's for some pretty good prices...

dont waste ur money on a 5.7. the 6.0 upgrades are worth it. better engine, better suspension, better brakes, ram air hood, dual exhaust. power locks, etc

Awesome cars in my book, but I'm a bit biased.

Watch out for the typical issues, strut rub (stock 17s), fuel line rubbing, door locks, and a few other commons issues.

Pull the GM VIS before purchasing, see what's been done to it, make sure the issues have been corrected. If you looked at my VIS you'd be terrified and run from my car, but I'm absolutely anal about it and every single thing that is a touch off has been addressed and corrected to my liking (which took more than once a few times).

Nothing wrong with a LS1's, everyone praises the LS2s and says they are much faster. Faster, yes...much, no. When I got mine (Jan '07) there was still a hefty price difference between the 04's and 05-06's, and the extra coin wasn't worth shelling out, particularly in the 04 only color combo I have.

If there's anything you want to know or check out let me know. I obviously have an 04, my room mate has an 06, my dad had an 06, and I've got 4-5 good friends with them too. To say I know a little something about these cars is an understatement.

I'm sure the few others with them on here will chime in soon..

huh?

Better engine - could be questionable with the oil consumption issues on the LS2.
Better suspension? - the same between all years
Ram air hood? - non functional
Power locks? - they all have power locks, you're probably referring to the '06 only switch located in the center console.
Dual exhaust - 04's had it too, just not dual side exit.

awesome cars, test drove both and the 06 seems a bit quicker but its really apples to apples in my book. only reason im not enjoying one right now is the insurance im 23 and have a few past speeding tickets 2200 dollars a year is robbery.

great in every way except looks. It looks like a caviler on steroids.

Another reason for the '04s, quiet sleeper look that doesn't scream attention. Flat hood and tame rear bumper.

Don't get me wrong, I love the looks of the 05-06's, but the looks alone weren't worth the extra change for me at the time, nor are they worth it now to upgrade to be a 05-06 look a like.

A guy I work with has the one with the LS-2.. It has the trick flow top end and Livernois tune, He is pretty happy with it..

well i was looking at 04's just because they are about 3k cheaper.. i just don't know much about them yet, being i've been working at a dodge dealer the last six years. i'm just thinking for some change. chysler doesn't have anything to offer in my price range in a 2 door v-8, and i really dont want to be just another guy with a mustang...

Go with a 6.0L. That thing moves out in our 2005 Silverado 2500 pick up. In a small GTO, it would be siick. Plus, with HCI packages they make over 400RWHP. I know, I raced one, then saw it dynoed a couple weeks later.

I loved mine...wish I hadn't gotten rid of it, but I had to at the time, unfortunately.

Comfortable, sounded good, good power, good handling....a bit heavy, though, and slower than cars of its size with less HP because of the extra weight.

I like the look of the 04's better. As far as the engine and everything, it's an LS motor so you can still do whatever you want to it. The LS2 has quite a bit more potential if you're just going to do bolt-ons and a cam.

The trunk and back seat are useless, though.

Meaning a Trans Am/Camaro. They run faster in the 1/4 mile stock...or at least that's what I was told

You loved it so much you got rid of it in the blink of an eye.

Yeah, unfortunately that is one of my biggest faults...I'm way too impulsive when it comes to things like this. I've made a lot more bad decisions when it's come to cars than I care to think about. I honestly do wish I would have held onto the GTO, though. At the time things just started getting really tight and I basically over-reacted, like I normally do.
