well since we're opening a junkyard here I've been constantly thinking of ways to connect people with the things we may have for sale. I dont know if this exists, but what about an online forum thats sole purpose is for vehicle and parts classifieds? I know a lot of people hate having to deal with junkyards, so this may be an easier way to connect people with the parts they need.

I know there are places like car-part.com, but thats only for searching junkyards, and to be able to use their website as a seller they charge pretty hefty monthly fees.

here is an example of how i feel this would be a hit. My dad has a 01 dodge ram with the heavy duty package. The transfercase cracked and Every junkyard wanted almost 1k for it, and I know if I find one through a private party I would pay less than half that for one. At the time i searched everywhere for one through every junkyard and forum I could find but no luck, so we had the pay the 1k from the junkyard to get an old beatup one. If there was a forum that had a huge posting of parts, i could have just connected with another private party and got one quick for much less.

I know people are probably thinking i'm crazy by trying to lower the prices of parts, but I feel that even though prices may be lower on the forum, the junkyard prices will still be just as high, and the forum will be a very useful tool in moving those niche parts and vehicles along with slow non-movers that just sit and take up space along with inventory $...

I'm really excited about it, and am about to purchase the vbb bulletin software and get it started. I also hope it doesn't flop like most forums I see started.

there could also be sections for selling aftermarket stuff, complete vehicles, wrecked vehicles, project vehicles, auto tech, etc

as I was looking through different cars for parting out I even thought about signing up at every vehicle specific forum to help move them :lmao: Makes much more sense to have one place where you can list everything.

well my warehouse would be just for my cars that I want to sell through my business. Just think of a massive online forum thats only for classifieds...anybody who wants to sell something can sign up and do so.

as far as parts go I was thinking of breaking it down to decades first, then auto/truck, then foriegn/domestic, and an aftermarket/performance section

at first I think its totally gonna suck until hopefully word gets around people start using it, but once it takes off (if it does) it will get big fast

I think the key will be how you organize the site and forums to maximize its effectiveness. As stupid as it sounds, id sit down in front of a chalkboard and map it out in front of you - then get friends to critique it (and come up with more ideas).

i agree 100%.

I've spent almost 10 years on forums using them all the time, so hopefully i can make something work

well car-part isnt a forum, its just a kind of crappy search that finds what you want in junkyards.

What i've noticed with forums is that when it first starts out and is smaller people are generally super nice and you dont have to worry about scammers as much, but then once it gets bigger you gotta start taking action to keep them out. I was thinking of charging business like junkyards a small fee to use the website as "sponsors", and having a pretty elaborate feedback system for the normal users.

i also want the first page to have a pretty elaborate step by step instruction on how to sign up with the forum and start using all the features to someone who may have not come in contact with this type of website before.
