i have a 97 GMC Jimmy and I had arplane like noise when driving on the highway. so I replaced both wheel bearings/hub assemblies. the noise isnt as obvious as it was, but I still get the airplane noise. it only seems to be loud when i slow down from highway speeds. any idea what I might have missed?

cupped tire?

i know the front tires need to be replaced, but i don't think a tire would sound different at same speeds. I can hear it a little bit when i first start driving, and then ill get on the expressway, and when i get off the expressway it is much louder. do you really thnk a tire would do that?

Heat affects plyability they will make different noise. Rotate them to back and see if noise changes. I agree it's most likely tires.

Dude I went through this a few years back on an Explorer. Wheel bearings, halfshafts, rotated tires. I finally replaced the tires: Noise gone. Like "Poof". Gone. I had been pretty faithful on rotating them, so the rears were about the same as the fronts. As in worn the same and about the same tread depth. On that particular set of tires, when they got to THAT point, they were just noisy as hell.

update. I replaced the front tires and moved the rear to the front. and I am still getting the airplane noise when getting off the e-way. so what is the next thing I should look at.

It still can be tires...Also some guys like to impact the daylights out of the hub bearing nut when in fact there is a torque spec so you do not OVERLOAD the hub bearing which will cause it go bad prematurely. So easy on your nuts !!
