Welding axle tubes

Since the center is iron and the tubes are steel, how does this work? I'd assume the center section being heavy duty iron and the tubes being so thin and steel it would take about 10x the heat to the iron?
Preheat the whole housing while empty? I've got an empty housing I may want to put together eventually...

Thanks for any info!

Not sure but I do know that Advantage Driveline in Jackson does it with a fixture for ~$100 the last time I priced it.

I figured most guys with a MIG can do it, but it's probably worth leaving it to the experts.

It has to be done using Nickle rod.
Straightening is done AFTER all welding to the housing is completed.
Keep in mind, any welding to the tube makes it crooked.
