Yep.. and check the flywheel teeth while you're in there. If the starter gear wasn't making proper contact and its' been that way for a while chances are the flywheel teeth are worn unevenly.You need a new starter...

How big a job is it to replace the starter on a 2000 Vette? I skimmed around online & it looks like the part is under $150.

I'm not that sophisticated. Could this be something other than the starter? What sort of life expectancy should be expected from that part? It's a 2000 Vette.
