Friend and I are looking for a good weekend trip next weekend. Thinking about going up to Macinaw, but it's a bit too expensive to stay there. Been to the Warren Dunes, going to Silver Lake this weekend, been to Cedar Point... What else should we check out before leaving MI?

go to mack but stay about 20 min south of the bridge.... its really not that much money. unless you go crazy and buy 50 lbs of fudge....lol

Well its a lil outside of michigan but my ex and I had a good time there...... check out the hocking hills in ohio

love mack and the upper pen. Its like going back in time. The west coast is beautiful too with its cliffs and beaches.

Frankenmuth?? B&B? Haha Tawas east side michigan.? Beaches...Its hot enough to tube down the rivers, golf in the morning? Bike ride? Priceline can set you up cheap if you "name your own price.."..

Pick a casino and stay a night or two? Blue chip or four winns is sw mich by the border. Do a wine tour or visit a few michigan breweries.. They are everywhere.. Greenfield villiage in dearborn? Rouge factory tour? Ha

Silver Lake is all you need to see it's the Best spot in MI Mac sucks in comparison.

Going there this weekend, haha. I have a friend that lives out there. But we want to go somewhere the following weekend as well.

A beach would be nice. We were thinking about Canoeing too. Looking at the thumb maybe, anything good up there?

Mackinaw is a great place stay someplace like chyboigen (spelling is probibly way off) the fam and I stayed there when we went it's pretty cheap and only a hop skip and a jump away and one of the best views of the bridge I have ever seen

Last Saturday I took a road trip that lasted from 9:00am to 12:30am the next day. It was a GREAT trip. From Midland to Frankfort...walked around at the beach and down the breaker to the lighthouse...then from Frankfort up the Sleeping Bear Sand Dune Lakeshore to Leland to have lunch at the Cove (a really cool restaurant next to a dam)...then walked around fish town a little bit. From Leland up and around the peninsula to Sutton's Bay, then down to Traverse City. Then up US31 to M119, arguably the best driving road in Michigan. It's called the "Tunnel of Trees", and it's a 1.5 lane road that snakes along the coast and through the forest. Tons of corners and hills...just REALLY fun to drive on, and great scenery. Then, from there, back to US31 to I75 for the quick 5 mile run to Mackinaw City. Dinner at Audie's, then walked around town for a bit...watched the sunset on the beach by the lighthouse and bridge.

Of course, this was with my fiance...so if you're with a male friend it might be pretty homosexual, but it's still a great drive! If you wanted to extend the trip another day, you could get a hotel in Mackinaw City (staying in the city is FAR cheaper than on the island), then drive back home along the east coast of the state.

BTW: Cost me almost $200 exactly in gas and food to do the trip. Lunch was $50, and dinner was another $50. So, split $100/$100 for gas and food.

We did port austin and caseville in the thumb last year. There isnt a damn thing to do up there but thats what makes it I guess. The water was nice, beach was ok. We stayed at the "nice" motel in port austin:), it faces the sunset, with the white deck pool and great view of the pier. We drove up and over then took 53 home. You can rent kayaks and go out on the lake a bit. They have a nice little breakfast joint, a sports bar, and a "nice" restaurant with $15/20 meals. Its a really old looking building.

BTW: this is a picture of M119...this is pretty much what it's like the entire way, only with a number of hills and tighter turns

Looks nice. My favorite drive, that is similar looking, is M26 to Copper Harbor.

I talked to my traveling buddy, and she likes Hocking Hills, OH a lot. For a weekend trip, it's pretty far though. Anything like that a bit further north? haha
