The 16 year old kenmore that came with the house is toast. Anyone have a water conditioning company they can recommend in northern Macomb county or services my area? Culligan was a fortune so they are out of my budget.

I bought a system from Lakeland Soft Water quite a while ago. I have them come out every 2 or 3 years to change out the whole house filter and service the softener. I've had it more than 15 years and nothing has broken on it yet. They told me thee are only 2 companies who make the complete softeners for everyone now. He said the new ones only have a service life of 8 - 10 years.........He said they put together their own systems from the best parts you can buy...

grr

I have a culligan, it's 13. Years old and other than the service guy cleaning it evert few years it's been really good. They finance and rent.

Advice I was given years ago about water softeners...

"They all do basically the same thing, have the same type
of parts & system."

So buy an inexpensive unit. They are pretty easy to install,
I've installed several at several different houses. The cheaper
ones work just fine.

Check out Lowe's, Sears etc.

Lakeland was on my list of places to call, glad to hear good things about them.

It's been a couple years since I had Culligan out but I think it was almost 3k for just a softener, and I didn't like that they make you buy salt from them or the warranty is voided. Just have a hard time paying that kind of money for a softener and I might need an iron filter too.

Buy a cheap one from a big box store that regenerates based on metered water at least (vs time). Preferably one that samples the water but those are more expensive.

Or buy one online from one of the many places that sell them. The benefit to these sellers is that they'll put media in the water softener that suits your water.

You can dump acid (like Iron Out) in your brine tank to help clean the media if it becomes iron fouled.

When I had a softener the only one that metered the water was kinetico . I never had 1 issue with mine except for the crappy ass water we had at that house. manganese is a bitch!

Kinetico. You pay more but they are the best and they are not the same as any other on the market. It's doesn't run on electricity it's powered by the water. Also it uses about 70% less water and very little salt for regeneration. So depending where it dumping out that's a big deal. Lastly you can run your water during the regeneration cycle because they have two filters tanks. So if you're up in the middle of the night taking leak or have an early appointment you can run the water (shower) without screwing up the regen and filling your hot water tank with bad water.

They threw in a free R/O system that is running to my fridge so no more $40 fridge filters.

Do not get the HB systems off Ebay they are junk. I had it at my last house.
If you're interested in Kinetico call Kyle 810-986-6244. Free in home consultation they will analyze your water and give you some options.
