Watch out Camaro... Here comes the 5.0! - 1st Dyno runs.

i think i may be the only one that can't stand the new mustang

overall, can't say i'm the biggest fan of them in general even though the 05-09's looked nice

retail orders will not pull until retail stock units get the ok to ship.

No VIN's for us for a little while.

My mom has a retail stock unit spoken for and her build date is April 10

She probably put her order in before you didnt she. Man its going to be June before i get my car.

The fact that my blood boils when I read this thread means the pony car battle is alive and well!!!!! I love it!

Data for reference:

I went 13.2x @109 stock on gsc's, but that was only 1 day at the track and I couldn't bear to keep it stock after that. However, a month later with a hooker cat back and a k&n it was going 12.91-12.98 @111 all day long on gsc's. I think Scott (2quickz) was doing 12.8's in his stripper Z. Back in the day the 03-04's cobras had trouble keeping up with the LS1. It always seemed like a cobra would need 40-50rwhp over the LS1 to be equivalent on the street. Damn those days were fun!

I have become less and less brand loyal as the years go by but still partial to the GM pushrod stuff. I would consider a new Mustang if I were in the market though.

considering that I order at 8am on the day the order bank opened, no she didnt. (she actually ordered a week after me).

When we found out that retail stock units would be built first her dealer odered one identical to her order so that she woudl get her car a few weeks earlier.

Since my car is a $40K hard top I told my dealer not to order one for strock as well in case they got stuck with a silly expensive hard top if both orders pulled in the system.

Motor Trend (5.0L review):<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
  • "Our Grabber Blue test car came with the row-it-yourself, a sublime transmission that glides effortlessly and crisply -- throw in any complimentary adverb, really, and it'll apply to this gearbox -- through its gates and treats a deft left foot to an easy-to-use clutch with linear take-up and precise engagement."
  • "Sure the output is prodigious and the fuel economy relatively frugal, but it's the refinement, the soundtrack, and, when you want it, the muscle that makes this engine so special."<o:p></o:p>
  • "No doubt, buyers today will be telling their grandkids about this mill. "You think your 1.0-liter quad-turbo lithium-polymer hybrid is impressive? Hah, let me tell you about the five-point-oh in my old twenty-eleven Mustang..."<o:p></o:p>
  • "Equipped with the available 3.73 rear axle ($395), our 5.0 needed just 4.3 seconds to hit 60 and only 12.8 at 110.8 mph to knockout the quarter mile. To answer the million-dollar question: Yes, it's quicker than both the 426-horsepower Chevy Camaro SS (4.5, 12.9 at 110.7) and the 425-horse Dodge Challenger SRT-8 (4.6, 13.1 at 108.4)."<o:p></o:p>
  • In terms of handling, the same can be said of the GT. Both its lateral acceleration (0.94 g) and figure-eight time (25.3 seconds at 0.75 g) are superior to those of the our best SS (0.90, 25.8 at 0.80) and SRT-8 (0.87, 26.74 at 0.679)."<o:p></o:p>
  • "Further, the 2011 has retained the sporty, agile, and responsive sensations that we loved so much in the 2010 GT, and dialed them up a notch. Retuned springs and dampers, larger anti-roll bars, and the aforementioned electric power steering all contribute to improved dynamics. At low speeds, the steering is noticeably lighter than the previous hydraulic setup, but once speeds rise, so too does the weighting, delivering first-rate feel and feedback."<o:p></o:p>
  • "Our tester was also fitted with the optional $1,695 Brembo brake package which provided excellent pedal feel, fade-free action, and a scant 105-foot 60-0 stopping distance."<o:p></o:p>
  • "In the league of naturally aspirated muscle cars, the new Mustang GT is in a league of its own."<o:p></o:p>
  • "Considering the slower, less-powerful BMW 335i Coupe starts at $43,525, a well-equipped GT Premium represents strong return on the dollar, to say the least."<o:p></o:p>
  • "What's not an understatement is that the 5.0 is the fiercest and fastest Mustang GT ever. Period. Goodnight."

Jalopnik:<o:p></o:p>
  • "The Mustang is now faster than the Camaro in a straight line and it was already arguably more fun to drive. The Mustang wins the Muscle Car Wars, story over."<o:p></o:p>
§ The 3.7-liter engine now makes this a genuinely quick car. it's got plenty of flexibility for easy day-to-day progress, but you need to be bouncing off the 7,000 RPM limiter regularly to make real progress. Luckily the slick shifter and rev-happy engine makes that easy. It sounds good when you work it too, not quite up there with the V6 in the Nissan 370Z, but the intake noise - the only thing you'll hear - is a crisp wail and if you stand outside the car while it pulls way the exhaust noise is nice and deep too. Your little sister's classmates will be impressed and you won't be disappointed if you have to borrow her car, even in base form you can have fun driving the V6."<o:p></o:p>
  • "Ford's also now offering a six-cylinder Mustang which will actually appeal to car enthusiasts." Called the "V6 Performance Package," it changes the final drive ratio from 2.73 to 3.31 for better acceleration, fits stiffer suspension based on the GT, adds unique black and silver 19-inch wheels and Pirelli summer performance tires, gains the brakes off last year's GT Track Pack, adds a strut brace to the engine bay and gets a unique engine cover. The idea was to create a car which is insurance-friendly, yet still fun to drive and exciting to look at. It's the V6 Mustang you can finally be proud of. The acceleration feels sharper than the regular V6 too, in fact the whole thing feels very much like the old GT. All this brings the price up to just below $25K, which is a hell of a bargain for a 305 HP car which looks this good and goes this fast."
§ "5.0 is sort of a magic number for Ford. It's the Mustang's connection to popular culture and the pinnacle of ‘Stang as affordable performance for the masses. Last time around it was all about white kids rapping and getting to the end of a 1/4 mile in the shortest possible time. Now, it's responsible for transforming the Mustang from a fun muscle car into one hell of a performance car."<o:p></o:p>
§ "The 5.0 has more muscle, but it's less of a muscle car and more of a performance coupe."<o:p></o:p>

Aside from looks, we can't think of a single area where the similarly priced but slightly more expensive Chevy Camaro SS beats the Mustang. • "In this case, one with a bargain bottom-line price tag as low as $30,495." <o:p></o:p>
  • "The first time you see—or hear—a new Mustang GT open up the throttle, you'll understand why we call it badass. Floor it, and the V-8 develops a deep authoritative bellow that turns heads and sounds way better—especially from the outside—than the more resonated sound from the bigger V-8 in the Camaro SS. And it has the capability to pin you back in your seat with almost supercar thrust, no matter what the gear. Or commit seemingly unlimited acts involving smoky burnouts."<o:p></o:p>
  • "As we also mentioned in our drive of the V-6, these new Mustangs completely recalibrate your performance and value expectations in a muscle car or sports coupe." <o:p></o:p>
  • "The new 2011 Mustang GT is wildly fast and wildly fun, and Ford likely opened the gate for an entirely new performance legend."<o:p></o:p>

What has changed in the 8.8 since the previous model year? Or in the last 20 years for that matter? Did they lighten it up or something? Bigger diff/axles?

I have to agree with Autoblog, I rather have a great solid over a mediocre IRDA. But as long as the Camaro is a shared platform we'll never see that.
