As some may know, I am a dentist, and I just moved to Northern Michigan. Well, I bought some other guy's office, and I need new signs. I talked to a sign guy, discussed several designs, settled on one, then told him I wanted a total of 4 signs, one large one, and three smaller accessory signs. He said OK and made some prototype pictures.
So I say to him (while gesturing like I am drawing a 3 foot diameter circle) "How much, Ballpark, is this whole she-bang gonna cost?"
He says: "About 4, but I'll keep it under that for ya."
I figure, for about $4000 I will have 4 signs. Right?
Wrongo. Today I get a proposal for one main sign, $4250, ONE accessory sign for $490, $284 in tax, $210 in installation labor expense (WTF?) and one offer for an OPTIONAL sign, $390. Assuming that the other sign I wanted was another $390 and add that tax, you're over $6000.00.
Was I unclear when I asked for a Ballpark for "the whole she-bang?"
Would it be fair if one of you came to my office, I quoted $200 for a filling, then handed you an invoice for tax, labor, and other expenses? Who does business like this? WTF?
