Looking for a donor FWD VR6 stick shift car. Needs a decent powertrain, dont really care about the body just needs a running driveline. Time to upgrade the vw convertible..

What year model vert?

86 Vert.. bought it for my wife as a wedding gift in 02, drove it 2 summers and it's been in storage since 03. life and my projects got in the way. Time for her car to get the TLC it deserves. I just got the CIS-E running and took it around the subdivision this morning. Forgot how gutless it is. The interior has a set of 15x7s Euro grill and 4 wheel discs out of a Scirocco. Time to start putting it all together. Vr6 swap will either be a soon project or this winters build.

Drove an engine and trans home yesterday.

Intentionally distant "good from afar but far from good" pic. First time I hauled an engine and trans home without a pickup :D

Why not a turbo motor? Lighter, way more power than that VR6 and not as tight in the bay.

THe VR6 fits fine, depending on how you do it, you can vary the position of the engine crosscar by upwards of 3".. so there's lots of room.
Short answer: I always liked the VR6 engine, that's pretty much the rationale.

Long answer: Back in 98 or 99, I was at an Audi club event. One guy had his built VR6 Corrado at Waterford. The car had a unique sound that I found intoxicating. The sound hooked me, and I've wanted to do a VR6 MK1 swap ever since. Time to do it.

Nice! Makes me miss my Rabbit GTI... I agree on the sound, pretty unique. Good luck with the project!

Got ya, the VR6 was an interesting engine when they came out. Of course as it matured we made many improvements that led to more power and an overall Better package.

In an understaking such as yours it would not be my choice, however, I totally get your rationale. Let me know if you need any information on the motor, gearbox, or the old Cab.

Good luck and have fun!
