Viewing aircraft

My 3 year old grandson loves airplanes.
Any suggestions as to where to park and view the big jets taking off and landing at Detroit Metro?

Probably depends on the day, but I think there are some cell phone/waiting lots around the airport..

There's one on Eureka on the south end of the airport. Just get off 275 at the Eureka Rd exit and head east. It's less than a mile up on the right.

Get off 94 on middlebelt, make a right on goddard.. your going to go about a quarter mile then make a left onto the service drive..Find a spot around there, you will be inline with 22L runway and will be able to see inside Delta hanger 3 and 4 where the big aircraft are... Have fun!!

My grandpa took me to a reastraunt by an airport when I was younger had all the talk between the tower and the pilots I loved it. I don't know if its still around but some thing to look into. You could see the planes coming in too (probly an important part)

Depending on where you live, let me know and I can take him for a ride in a plane I have access too, or at least sit in one. As far as going into the tower/app/dep control, getting in requires a reason, 3 days advance notice for the TSA to do a background check, and some other junk that takes time. I visit DTW tower every other month or so to just hang out with the guys and take some pictures.

Thanks folks for the suggestions.
89lx...what a generous offer from you.The 3 yr old loves big trucks also, but was a little intimitidated when placed in his great uncles big rig.
Can"t keep my little buddy out of "grandpas camero car".Fire off the blown big block and he drops everything and comes running into the garage for a ride down the driveway.
Thanks again guys..I will take him to the airport this weekend.Lets see if his grin is wider than the t-rex skeleton he saw at cranbook last week.
