Vehicle shipping question...

So, I'm buying a 1995 GT from the Nashville area, but my work schedule and/or weather has been making it difficult to get down there to drive it back...

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with shipping a vehicle and what company they used? I've never done it before.

My Uncle suggested a company he used recently to ship a car up from Florida and they want $800 to ship it to the Ann Arbor area in an enclosed trailer.
The company seems perfectly fine, but I was just wondering if I can get a better price than that. Something around $500 would feel a lot better. I could save some money shipping it on an open trailer, but I'm not sure if I want to do that with the snow/salt still flying.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

I used Motorcity Hotshot but they had to put it out on Central Dispatch. I think someone on the board does the same thing for a bit cheaper but I can't recall who.

Mad1stgen does it on here.

I did a auction on Uship. To have my CTS-V shipped from Houston to Southfield was $700. It was on a full size car carrier.

DO NOT USE AT Auto Transport out of Chicago. Liars and cheats.

I'll have to contact him and see what that's all about. Is he fairly active here if I send him a PM?
My Uncle used a company called Montway Auto Transport and they did a good job. From what I've read online they seem very good, but I'd like to pay less than $800 to ship the car 500 miles. It's not really all that far... I lived in Houston for two years, that's like 1200 miles.

Did you go look at it in person first?
Or just gonna wing it and hope for the best, expect the worst?

Nah I could never do that lol
I've spoken to the owner, seen a lot of pictures, and my cousin who lives in Nashville went and saw it with his Mustang-expert buddy. They gave it a big thumbs up. I've just gotta go see it in person for my own sanity and then finalize a deal for it. It's a very nice car, one that's not really easy to find in my experience.
I should be getting my four days off this weekend and I'll be going down there to close the deal on it. The owner is honestly one of the nicest guys I've ever dealt with buying a car. He works for Murfreesboro PD, seems like a really straight up honest dude.

Have you considered a 1 way flight, then renting a truck and trailering it home? Only an 8hr drive. Esp if you're already planning to fly down to see it and close the deal.

That's the guy, he was helpful when I sent him a note. I went with the first company since I thought they were going to be able to do it themselves.

I think Montway sends everything to central dispatch. I had to wait almost three weeks to get an enclosed, I ended up paying about $1.25/mile, if I recall the estimates right it was closer to .90/mile for open.

Drive it back if you buy it. It's a nice town.
I just see a lot of people asking stuff like this, how to get the car back after asking someone to look at it.
Everyone has a different opinion of what "good" means, its really left open to interpretation.
Their good might be crap to you.
Lots of people buy crap sight unseen by their own eyes and then complain they got a pile when it shows up, and they paid a ton for it...

mad1stgen helped me out with one around x mas from Nebraska to detroit

I'm gonna shoot him over a PM and see what he says.

Yeah I won't buy a car sight unseen. I just had them go take a look at it to make sure it wasn't BS because of how perfect it looked/sounded in the ad. Plus I have a pretty demanding and unpredictable work schedule and I needed someone to check it out ASAP. I caught it the first day it was listed and other people have been swarming around it since.
My plan was to just drive it back, did that with one from Charlotte years ago, but the weather/roads haven't been the best for that, I got forced OT the last two weekends and this weekend I don't have a second driver. I'd prefer to have another person driving back in another car in case any problems come up.
