Vacuum leak?

I rebuilt my carb and I some how got a Vacuum leak, I've cleaned the carb three times now... Got all the gasket off the metering blocks and main body... Fresh new gaskets.... I start it up and it idles funny and I tinker with the idle air adjustment screws and its running great until I drive it... The rpms drop below 1200 and the car acts like it wants to stall then when I give it gas it seems real weak then the rpms sky rocket and seem to drag when coming back down (Before I messed with the carb the rpms would drop right back) I have spayed carb cleaner on the intake, carb spacer and it does not effect the idle... I am stumped? Could the valve lash cause this?
 
Hmm I noticed that the car was getting worse and worse? So I take the carb off again and I notice something... The stud to hold the dist in place must have vibrated out or I left it off and it had retarded the timing... I put it back up to 38 degrees and the problem seems to have gone away..... Now to drive it.
