You mean solid roller right? Nobody uses solid flat tappets anymore do they :faint:
If you wanted to get crazy maybe pull the inner spring out if you're using a dual spring. Other then that I'm pretty sure regular break in will work.
Comp Cams told me its a big no no using new lifters on a broken in flat tappet. Atleast thats what I remember. And make sure you go with a good lifter 80% of cam failures have been because of the lifters. I had to remove my inner spring and add a additive to the oil.
There comps lifters, I"m prob gunna take the inners out like mentioned. I run ams oil in all my crap with lucas so hopefully it'll be ok
thanks for the advice.

What addative did you use, did they recommend anything?
I used Rotella T for break in. I think the higher zinc and phosphorous is better for the flat tappet cams.
I just did a quick search on it and read Rotella was supposed to be reducing the levels this year due to the cats in the new diesel crap. Not sure if or when it's going to actually happen though.
hmmm I'm getting away with this right now. The cam in my current motor was in the one I broke last year. I just tossed some new lifter in it and broke it in without the inner springs.
lol.. yes solid flat tappet sir., some people still use those haha.
roller cams don't need break-in, I wouldn't ask about a breaking in a used roller cam with new roller lifters.

Do not reuse that camhaft with new lifter. The odds of it working are about 10% at best from what I have seen over the years. for as cheap as solid mechanical grinds are nowadays just splurge the $ on a new camshaft.

Man you guys got me scared now, The problem with ordering a new cam is time. That'll be another week at least to have one ground up for it.
I just don't know if its worth the risk of fucking the motor up to save a week. :icon_frow
