UPS misplaced and SOLD mazda engine.

Watching this right now... WTF!!!!!

I feel bad for the guy. Glad he finally got his engine although he had to purchase it twice. I've thought about if it werent for Rob being fairly wealthy, he may not have been able to drop the 6500 a second time to get his engine back...

This is going to be/has become a PR nightmare for UPS. what a sleazebag company to flat out steal from customers and try and sell their stuff without thinking they'd get caught.

agreed, but even knowing this i'd still choose them over fed ex. they simply suck at life. i hate using them. but unfortunately there is no good option to use. usps sucks. fed ex sucks. and now ups sucks..

Wow what a mess. A friend of mine had a $25k race motor built and shipped ups last year. And they lost it. No idea where it went told him to make a insurance claim. It was shipped from the engine builder in Texas to Michigan. Tracking showed it all the way to a sort facility in Michigan and then never seen again. He felt I could me a inside job from ups so he called back and asked for a written statement by ups explaining there side. Then told them he had a LoJack device installed in the crate bc it was so expensive and didn't want any issues. He woke up the next morning and the crate was in his driveway. No expectations or sign of them dropping it off. Magically showed up.

Wow. Someone thought they were in trouble.

I would suspect that a crate engine would be an easy target. Performance Engine Building Company XYZ as the shipper with overweight oversize container. Container "gets damaged" during shipping and has to be "inspected" so the workers can open it up and see exactly what is inside of it. Then you know a guy who has a truck and know security, so on and so forth. Boom missing engine

Right. 10/hr UPS workers and security guards... "yo man I can sell this engine to my cousins friend for 2k, ill give you a cut" type of shit.

Yep. I'm guessing it happens all the time. Would be kind cool to ship a crate with gps and some gopros, insure it for $50k and and see what happens. I bet more then a few people open to look inside.

Ship an old block with a crank only, bare heads, valve covers and oil pan installed so it looks complete with a BS packing slip saying its a 1000 hp motor along with your suggestions...

What I find odd is that I can order hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of parts at a time from summit and the shit always showes up scary fast and never fucked with. Even though the boxes say in huge letters. Summit performance parts. Lmao.

1) it doesn't travel far. less hands on it = less chance of someone taking it.

2) people are probably more likely to risk their job/freedom for a wooden crate w/ a $35k motor that is 1 of 4 in the world (custom 4-rotor) than a $1000 box of parts from summit that probably isn't uncommon to see come through.

I've had stuff go missing with both USPS and UPS but nothing nearly this valuable obviously.

All good points. I'm sure not all of the theft is employee. Few years ago when I was dumber, well I still am, I was down in Detroit at the street races. Hundreds of people there watching and standing in the street. Ups truck pulls down the street, mind u its 3 or 4 am and he can't pass till we run the cars that are lined up. All of sudden I see people jumping in the back of the truck throwing packages out on the street. Driver just keeps driving probably fearing for his life. There was boxes everywhere for about 30 seconds till people pick them up and ran off with them. The next weekend same scenario goes down. But when they open the back door of the truck BOOM 12gauge shotgun to the chest. Kills one guy and the rest jump down. Honestly can't blame him. Haven't been to that spot since.

I'm telling you. It wasn't the driver. There was a guy sitting in the back. True story I got no reason to make this shit up. Never saw anything about it on the news either. Shit was enough to make me never want to go back. Lol.

I was mind blown. The sad part is I'm sure somewhere someone has a video. There are always people using there phones to record the races. But when bad stuff happens they always seem to disappear.
