Made it to the UP last week. Really got lucky with the color as it is about a month late. Went to the Porkies, stopped in Sidnaw for a night then went to the Soo to watch boats. Good time.

Thanks for sharing. That's beautiful, I've never been around the u.p. much. Drive along the lake to Wisconsin, but that's about it. I need to get up there, looks like the color still has a little bit huh?

Cant beat the UP in the fall. Did the little breakfast joint in Sidnaw shutdown?

Looks like it has been shut down for while. In 1982 I shot a bear on the 2nd day of the season and needed a place to keep it because the rest of the group was still hunting. That little restaurant let me put it in their freezer. When I went to pick it up in a week I had a 250 lb ball of frozen bear that wouldn't fit anywhere. Took everything out of the Bronco including the back seat and stuffed it into the old travel trailer I was pulling. We were able to put the bear in the Bronco for the trip home. Had to wait another week for it to thaw so I could skin it.

That little bar on the side street is long closed up ( the one with the arrows in the wall) and gas station is now a bar & grill.

That's an Old Girl there looks like the Anderson

I first thought it was the Callaway which is a sister shop to the Anderson and Clarke. However all 3 I believe have their cranes coming from the aft not the bow. All would have the same paint as this too. After some googling it looks more like the John Munson has the correct arrangement and all are part of the Uss Great Lakes Fleet.

Now you have me checking out freighters again lol.

Hanging out at the Aune-Osborn campground for a couple days can turn you into a boat geek. Was actually watching boatnerd.com and n8dnx.org for ship tracking. Here are some more shots of that ship.

When I used to work in Sault Ste Marie a week at a time I used to grab lunch at clydes over by the sugar island ferry quite a bit and at times it was the only spot I could get service so I'd work there for a few hours. Nice views for sure.

IDK I think its cool stuff if you know the history of the freighters , the fact that company executive's would take their vacations riding on these ships over the summer is pretty neat stuff - they still do raffles to do summer cruise's - I just don't think the 1000 footers look as nice a lot more safer for sure seeing as they all have to be salt water rated now just not as cool , Boat nerd YES !!!
