Under coat or park it?

Just FYI - through lab testing, I have the data that shows oil coating an under carriage or body panels traps moisture more than any other type of undercoating. Which then starts panel/paint blistering after 24months or 72hr humidity testing, so while your preventing rust your starting the delamination process of your paint exterior and the moisture is actually eating away at the zinc phosphate underside of your body panels - which means one day you will see a tiny rust bubble that is actually 3-5X's the size below ;)

So what's your professional opinion on what to do to keep my undercarriage nice for years to come?
 
Hes saying not to use the oil one

What auto one does is more like tar, and it doesnt crack trap moisture etc....i have used it lots on different vehicles, and keeps it the under side rust free
 
undercoat wont do a whole lot, its worst inside the rockers. The design wasn't good for letting moisture out, as i can see from doing rockers and cab corners on my truck right now.
 
whats the best route then? hit a car wash every couple/few days or undercoat?

I think im going to drive my rusty beater chevy around town and just use my dodge for trips or when i have to cart more than just myself around town. I figure if i atleast reduce the exposure to the salty roads i should be ok. :dunno:
 
Long gone are the days of jacking up the thing up on stands and crawling underneath with rubber gloves on and a few huge jars of good old vaseline petroleum jelly and put it on everything and in every nook and cranny. The shit works.... old school boys, old school!

I'm going to give Fluid Film a whirl this year. Our 07 G6 with 50k on it is starting to rust pretty good. I chased the rust with rust converter then painted it. After it cures for a few weeks I'm going to use Fluid Film on it.

I've tried Durabak and most undercoatings. Durabak works the best by far but it is a PITA to put on and deal with when working on the vehicle.

The wax that most manufacturers use works well until it is compromised. You can make your own at home but I find it irritating also.
 
planning on taking the bmw to Ziebart to get the rust prevention for surface rust that is already present, then the full undercoat. $400 to save a car is nothing.

Spoke to Paul at Auto One on Gratiot, between 8 1/2 and 9 mile and he said $249... The guy sounded pretty knowledgeable! said he's got 30 years experience in this field... They power wash the entire vehicle where they undercoat it, including the engine compartment... They take the wheels off, tarp the truck off before spraying, Acid wash any rusty spots... says it takes about 6 hours to do... I'll probably take my Pathfinder next week.
